Hi,
To everyone, i am a new member and would like to show you my R/H/D 1973 CSL .
I have owned this for around 5 years and spent most of this time under slow restoration , but now ready for use!! and it will be used ,not into show cars that don't get any use,
the car still has all of its original aluminium panels and is build number 343 of 500 r/h/d cars (look at the number plate you can see the build number 343 on it!!)

I will be taking the car off the road this winter and rebuilding the engine, hoping to squeeze a touch more BHP out of it, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do have some parts for CSi models and can ship world wide if anyone is looking for anything???

Thanks for looking and hope it was ok to post the pictures...
Thanks Neil..

Welcome...
Very Tidy Motor 8)
I hope you have fun and do give it a good thrashing now and then. :D

Not being cheeky now.... but do invest in Waxoyl or Dinitrol rustproofing and be prepared to make a mess at least once a year.
It will save your lovely motor

Cheers

Welcome

Hi Neil,

Welcome to the group. What a lovely car you have!

I have a 1975 CSi, which is fairly stock (ish!) but am looking for a sports steering wheel for it. In the near future I also want to replace the rear bumper.

Do you have any of these items available?

very nice!

what color is that? Is the original color?
haven't seen a CSL in that color before......

Looks like Ceylon...................isn't there one down in Oz that color? Beatiful car anyway..............I was just commenting that I'm so bored with silver CSs. Maybe it's because I've owned two but I'm really attracted to these cars in colors other than silver.

Again, welcome to the group and congratulations on owning such a sweet ride.

As for bumping up BHP on your D-Jet motor, I don't really think you've got many options. It's widely held that the D-Jet FI can't account for very wide variations in cam timing and you could end up chasing running quality problems if you put something other than stock in it. If you're going to keep the 3 liter lump your best bet would be to ditch the FI completely and go with a big valve, performance cam, triple Weber setup but if I had a numbers matching CSL I'd just leave it the way it is and do suspension upgrades. As it is, my CSL does not have the original engine and after a year of engine troubles (finally traced to a couple of things including the TPS and a bad voltage regulator) I decided to build an S38 motor for it. That's a long term project however and with the original D-Jet motor running pretty well I'm happy with power I've got.

Dupli-Color

August 2006 Popular Mechanics, page 5 has a spray on temporary paint (Dupli-Color).
Now you can try the color you wanted and wash it with water and soap
when you are bored. Paint it every week-end a different color and
have the neighbors puzzled over how many E9s you have in your tiny garage.
Who is first? Malc?

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying my car is Ceylon, not sure if many have been made in this colour? :? Glad you like the car... .. Heres an interior shot.

Regards engine mods, i would like the car to look standard under the hood and keep the original engine, is it worth lightining the flywheel and balancing the bottom end?? during the rebuild?

i also have the chance to buy a stainless six branch manifold with matching 60mm stainless exhaust system, should i expect an improvement fitting it?
thanks Neil.

my 2cents = have fun with the exhaust & save the original bits, they sound great opened up yet are inherently pretty quiet .

I agree with Shanon regarding the sound of the D-Jet, although our definition of "opening it up" may vary. My CSL has the stock exhaust system minus the second muffler that is now virtually NLA. It was a short section that went between the center main muffler and the rear resonator. I believe it essentially goes over the right rear axle shaft. With this piece removed my CSL makes great noises when needed, but is unobtrusive when not. I've never been a big fan of loud exhaust on cars, especially on those that actually get driven.

Your interior is very nice, interesting fitment of seatbelts. You've got the late style shoulder harness which is the most usable of all variants put in E9s. How do they work? As you may know, CSLs did not come with seatbelts from the factory and the Scheel seats cause plenty of problems finding belts that actually work.

You can easily find out if your CSL came from the factory painted that color by contacting Mobile Traditions. Did you pick Ceylon yourself? It's a cool color in my opinion, and you see very few CSLs that color. From what I can tell, you could get a CSL in just about any color you wanted. I've seen factory paint on CSLs in Fjord, Baikal, Turkis, and Inka, all welcome departures from Polaris and Chamonix.
