Help! auto gear selector fail

CS auto is stuck in park. Removed the gear selector lever - sprig loaded retractor working ok but trying to work out the function of part 13 in the attached. I think when you screw on the handle it also screws into this part as the end of the lever is threaded. I'm assuming though that the thread has stripped as it wont engage. Any ideas / quick fixes?

I presume that when it's attached correctly this part 13 is lifted when you depress the handle button and that s what allows the gear selection
