this is my NOS "CS" emblem for the trunk bonnet

it has the original points for the assembly, it is aluminium

I can introduce them through the holes, but the question is how to fix them, it seems that i have to deform them with a tool, but i do not know how to do it

no grommets, the pins are too short for that
i am considering that some glue could be involved, but i tend to think that some mechanical fix is needed

in my opinion the pins are hollow for a reason, i think that they will be somehow riveted

does anyone know about this ?
Suggestion: Would tap inside the pins to some appropriate pitch, and use a soft metal machine screw and soft washer. Or, tap the outside and use a low profile aviation locknut.
Good luck!

The correct grommet fits on the outside of the hole, pins are pushed onto the grommets which expand in the hole. They are clear with an internal brass ring.

I am going through removing my existing (original?) 3.0 and CS badges which like DQ's NOS shown here had hollow, thick pins and have been mushroomed out to hold the badges in place.

The new ones I bought as replacements, since I don't believe the mushroomed out pins will be able to be re-used, have thinner, solid pins.

Chris, I found three posts where you describe this plastic grommet with brass insert and "petals" but I can't find photos or availability of it anywhere. Do you have a photo or know where/how to get it? Thanks.

I don't have a photo but I got them from a Mesa Performance who got them from BMW. They have clear plastic fingers that look like petals, in the center is a reinforcing ring which is gold. You place it in the opening and push the mounting pins into them. The original emblem pins were probably melted with a heat gun to spread the pins out.

That much heat would have burned the paint all around the emblem. Those pins work like tubular rivets. Hit them to spread the thin cylinder wall out.

Are the grommets you describe these?:

my non original solution for a daily driver; tap a thread around the pins and instal a nut, I think I used M5. Its my insurrance against stolen badges; a hobby of the local youth here. And the big plus; if you want to clean your car, simply unscrew, take the badge off and get that green stuff out of there.

As the material is quite soft, i think you could also use a short screw with a washer.

but all of this is non original I understand.

Erik.

No perticular grommet

Confirmed by my old BMW mec, no perticular part to "stick" the badges .
Just deform the aluminium pins with an appropriate tool in the hollow part (from inside).
It results a slight increase in diameter and the smashed end acts as a rivet.
That's the way I did on mine.
