hi

can you help me identifying my rear group diferential, see photo attached

I cleaned it and these numbers arise, do they permit identification of type, performance, maintenance grease needed ?, etc

regards

diff

Do not quote me, but I thought if you divided 38/11 (3.45) that indicated the ratio? I need someone to confirm this, however.

ratio

TodB is correct, divide to obtain ratio. The numbers show the numbers of teeth on the pinion and crownwheel respectively.

ok,

thanks for the information about the numbers

any advise on the apropriate viscosity of oil for this application ?
I ´ve heard about using:

80w

80w90

or 90w

but which is the correct one ?

and moreover have you heard about the EPaditive-based oils , can they be used ?

regards

Hi , a white painted S usually denotes a limited slip but this could have gone over the years. I am not sure on the oil for non LSD diffs but for LSD I use castrol B373.

If you have both wheels jacked up spin one and if the other goes the same way I think its a LSD,

Regards,

Rohan

Typically, I have seen a "S" stamped close to the numbers, in addition to the white, painted "S" located on the top of the differential if it is a LSD.
