I am a newbie. So, any help and input is much appreciated!
I took off the bottom steering column cover on my newly aquired E9 to look at two issues.
1. Removal of the faulty ignition swtich- The bolt removal will be no easy task. But I will prevail!
2. Look at why the blinkers will not self cancel.
I found what is shown in the attached picture.
I have no idea what it is but it is definitely broken. Please help.
Don't want to even venture a guess on what it might be. What is it and is this part available anywhere??
On the blinker self cancel:
I can see when the blinker is on there is a piece that extends out toward the steering colum shaft. I turn the steering column but there is no mechanical piece on the steering column shaft that will dis-engage the blinker.

as luis said that is the horn electrical contact that must touch the copper circular ring that is fixed in the steering wheel

as about the canceller, it must be a collar part that ends in a flat straight piece, inserted in the steering column, just between the column and the wheel, that is the one that cancells the indicators

ignition switch removal

there are several good threads on this, its not trivial, so read before you start. if you are not able to break the screws loose using the 'chisel method', e-z outs work too.

Thanks

Thanks for Identifying the part - Ordered from Mesa Performance
Was also able to order the ignition back switch (the part with the electical wires- understand that I do not have to remove the ignition to replace this part- just don't lose the screw!)
Also ordered the ring that goes on the steering shaft that cancels the blinkers.
Thanks for the help!
