Hi all,can anyone tell me what is the method to fit the windscreen?

I know that :

1. A pillar cover
2.headliner
3.dash

...how to continue?

thx for the advice

1...Place rubber seal around the windscreen
2...Lay a cord inside the lip of the rubber, over lap usually at the top
3...Line up the screen and rubber seal to the aperture
4...With assistance pushing carefully on the screen pull the cord from the inside to get the rubber seal lip over the windscreen frame.
5... Use windscreen sealer between the seal and the body, and the seal and the glass from the outside.
6...Before it dries insert the bright trim in the outside of the seal.
7... remove excess sealer that may ooze out
8... Fit sunvisors, interior mirror etc
Well that's how I did the last one

The method I have heard of is similar to Malc's, except to install the fragile aluminum trim in the seal before installing the whole assembly.

I just did mine and it was a PIA! I tried to do it myself the way Malc describes by installing the aluminum trim after the window is installed in the car but couldn’t it get it to work. When I had the window replaced on my other car me and the two installers did it. I took the three of us two hours to install both the front and rear windows. We did it per Bill’s suggestion by installing the rubber on the glass then installing the aluminum trim in the rubber prior to installing the window in the car.

Good luck and be patient!

It helps to lubricate the rubber seal.

My father in law (ex) ran a glass business for 50 years. He used ATF for this (yes, Auto Trans Fluid!).

As with many things, having some lubrication makes the whole process easier.

Once iot is in, you can wipe off the ATF and then apply the sealer under the lip of the seal.

When I did my 635 windshield, I put the trim in before installing the windshield and seal tot he car. It is pretty much impossible to get the trim in afterwards, although I'll bet the lube trick would aslso work there.

Ah...
Forgot about the trim thing, last windscreen I did was on my BMW 2002Tii and the"chrome" beading went in last to "pressurise" the rubber seal.
Is the trim just decorative on the E9?
Must try and remember this when the bucket's windscreen goes in, that and the AFT!

I would have thought that the trim went in last to lock or "pressurize" it as well and that is why I tried that method first. It was after reading posts on this board that I tried it with the trim in first. This is also the way the installers said to do it. The rear window was the hardest and took the longest. However, that might have had something to do with using a brand new seal. The seals come with a wax like preservative on them that should be cleaned off prior to installation. The installers also used a silicon spray on lubricant, I think ATF might have worked better. This guy also had a trick for rejuvenating old dried out rubber seals; soak them in used motor oil for a few weeks…

Windshield Installation

I've seen it done a couple of times and on both occasions the trim was installed with the glass. The trim is fairly fragile and easily bent. This fellow doing the work had been installing glass for long time but that glass was quite a struggle for him, good luck
