I need advise regarding exhaust systems, all pieces on "Siena" are hacked and patched big time. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Parts available or for sale? At minimum I will need to re-work the down pipes and collector. Probably have to go custom from there due to my location. Originality is not an issue.

There are several vendors

search for stainless exhaust, there have been at least two batches made that were advertised on this list.

Ever the engineer, I hope you research what you're trying to achieve before taking it to the nearest ricepiper or fartcan supplier, and post results! Many delete the middle can that rides must forward of the right halfshaft, some take out the center resonator as well. Depends on how loud you like it. I've tried to ask what's in the center resonator but gotten no response. It's length is supposed to be a significant factor.

My old (70) former hotrod neighbor really wants me to put a dual exhaust on my motor. Says it would sound really cool. Not until by fiberglass rear muff and/or several other bits comletely disintegrate.

Questions that Pamp and I probably share. Some of the answers may help guide the order in which things happen.

As part of this topic, is there any info on what the stock m30b30 header will flow in cfm or maximum hp before it becomes restricted?

I saw somewhere recently that the late stock header for the m30b35 had better numbers due to larger diameter - correct? A picture of a golf ball that can't going into the b30 but will in the b35 comes to mind.

Is there such a thing as too much flow capacity? If the engine is the last thing to be upgraded are you losing power because there is too much volume in the system?

Looks like I have b30 exhaust manifolds, 42mm OD down tubes to the resonator and 60mm OD from the resonator to the rear muffler and tail pipe. Currently about 195 rwhp (if corrected for altitude) and is probably fine for now.

Yes

I like it too...I don't need to re-tub my rear! Even a single would not fit if I were to try and left side duplicate...motorcycle mufflers...yikes! Yet way cool...I would think there would be be a set of Stahl or Hartge headers with a collector piece kicking around out there to give me a starting point. Paul I thought was working towards headers...what happened there? Lot's O' stuff on da bay for 3, 5, and 6 series...what works?

I basically cloned the Coupe King system in Mild steel. Here in So Cal it will out live me.....
used a 24 inch long 2.25 in/out glasspack along the CL under the drive line.
Used the same Magnaflow 18 in x 6 in dia aft muffler transverse behind the diff, the same as CK.
All Mandrel bent 2.25 in tube. Bought a 2.25 fabricaters kit from Mandrelbends.com: SBK-16-225-300-MS
plus 4ft of straight tube.........
that provided more then enough material. Used one of their fabricated merges to mate to stock M30B35 downpipes. (MCL2P-22525-MS with slip fits added)
Used these hangersU

Probably have ~$600 in materials and an afternoon fabb'ing it.
Not loud at all and fits perfectly
Pictures if you want..... but it is very similar to the CK system.... just mild steel tubing.
If you have to pay to have this done ... The CK system is a bargain......

Thanks

DaveG,
Thanks for the info...pic's are always a plus...worth a thousand words. I am going to assume you are a proficient welder and fabricator. What was your welding technique, straight forward flux core wire or are you set up for MIG? What did you use as the tip?
Straight or dual? At present the car is OK for the summer season, just wanting to build the stack of parts for the winter season and have a notion or two. Yeah, I can do this myself. Other than upholstery and paint I can cover the rest.
As a side note...I have a set of manifolds for the 3.5 motor, these appear to have a different flange style than the 3.3 motor in my car, I could be wrong. Would these flow better? Need to find the down pipes you are referring to as well. I was kind of hoping that sfdon would pipe in on this one as he has an extensive knowledge of upgrades and hands on experience of what works.

Pamp,
MIG?......NEVER!!!!!!.....Just kidding......
I'm a semi proficient TIG welder.....
The earlier Manifolds use a 3 bolt flange and 1.75 tubing. The B35 manifolds use a 2 bolt flange and 2 inch tubing......I bought the downpipes from Double 02 parts. I got everything down to just in front of the Cat from a 89 635csi. They fit the E9 like they were meant for it.

Exhaust

TIG...damn. No way the hobby shop budget could stand it. Looking at the part fische's @Penske it appears I have a set of the 635 style manifolds in the parts stash...spent an hour this morning drilling out two broken studs to see if I can salvage these. Curious if you were able to re- use the CS style heat shields or used the kinda' cheesy heat shield / gasket combo? Sorry about these simple questions...I am not wanting to start tearing the car apart to answer for myself!
When you say 02 salvage gave you all back to the 'cat, did that include the collector or "two to one" pipe? Did you use this piece or duplicate it yourself?
Thanks as not many want to submit to this thread...trouble being for me is that is no talent local to me at all save "Midas"

Exhaust

Thanks for that my Swedish brother...(I am of the Olsen clan) To ship anything from "the old world" is cost prohibitive. Outrageous in fact.
