Does anyone have an effective way to mount fog/driving lamps without drilling the bumper and still maintaining lamp stability? Franck and Enzo have some awesome vintage sets for sale, but I'm struggling to drill the brand new rechromed bumper.....

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Best

I had a set of no-drill clamps but I don't think the person makes them any more. They didn't work very well because the lights bounced up and down when on the road. I ended up buying a back up center section and drilled my original for the lights. No regrets.

There are clamps available on eBay for mounting on the bumper brackets. Easy enough to search used for VWs & Hot Rods.

I would neither drill holes nor use the clamps, you will ruin your brand new rechromed bumper. Instead buy a new one with the holes, get some stabilising brackets and sell the rechromed bumper.

p.s.: I do have one NOS centre part with the holes available

So color me confused on the subject… were they available from the factory that way Or was this a dealer option etc?

Interesting. I just assumed the holes in mine had always been there. They look very “factory”.

i also have what I guess was a factory holed bumper,

convenient

i would not place lights on no-hole bumper brackets

Your solution may require creative ingenuity, some fabrication, fitting & adjusting, standing back to admire your work.

I'd use a 1.5 - 2 inch wide Aluminum 1/8th thick & make through grill brackets like Pierre's on '02s.

All,

Thank you for the thoughtful replies. Looks like I've got a decision to make, but its good to have several options.

Merry Christmas

Looking at various centre bumpers, I see that

- all have holes at the bottom side
- all these holes are exactly at the same position
My conclusion is that these came from factory.

Whereas on the top side

- all have holes at the top side
- all pairs of holes are at different locations
- there is one NOS coming with top side holes.
My conclusion is that depending on the type /size of the additional lights ordered for the top installation the specific location was determined.
I have one set of chrome caps, covering and stabilising the mounting position

It's diameter is about 50mm, can't say if this was available from BMW.

I know it is not reflected in BMW part catalog but I would not be surprised that BMW was preparing bumpers and also mounting fog light on specific markets to be in-line with local rules which in the past were much different than they are now.

Money talks and BMW in the past was able to produce and to pay for homologation for cars like BMW 320IS (E30).

I'm not sure but in Northern part of Europe fog lights at front were probably compulsory.
