My first dude!!

The car has the idle very low and when is warn turn off due to the low idle if you dont press de pedal.
Im going to take the car to the mechanic but before i would like to find a kit reparator for the carburators..Its possible to find it?
The carburators are a zenith INAT35/40, isnt? And has 2 carburetor of double o triple body?

Thanks!!

Welcome! Your car looks nice!

You should be able to find a carburetor rebuild kit for your Zeniths; I found two kits on Ebay a few months ago but I am sure there are other sources.

Before rebuilding the carburetors I would first simply have them adjusted. Make sure your mechanic has experience with dual Zeniths because it is easy to make the problems worse. A low idle can be usually fixed with the single idle adjustment screw on the cross linkage. However, if these linkages are often bent and mis-managed require more adjustments.

You should also have a simple tune up done. These cars have points, condensers, rotors, distributor caps, plugs, and plug wires that should be kept in top condition for reliable idle and performance. Obviously the timing needs to be re-set after changing and adjusting the points. Another service area that often goes overlooked in the valve lash (gap).

From my personal experience the BMW engines of this era also need to be run. I mean they like to get out on the highway and be pressed hard for few minutes. Some people may consider this to be "urban legend" stuff but what I have seen from taking apart many city-driven BMW engines is that the exhaust and more so the intake valves develop very bad carbon build up; running hard tends to brake up these deposits. Just be careful and don't push so hard that you damage the engine.

If you don't want to deal with the Zenith carbs many of us have converted to dual Webers (32/36) with reasonable results.

Welcome! Do not worry about your english, you are well understood to all of us here. In the future, do not hesitate to ask any questions or share any good knowledge or stories you may have.

Thank you for your wellcome!

Bert; your car is impresionant!I will ask you how to fit the 5speed gear!!

Jacobs; i have found a ebay seller who has the kit for the carburator of the cs. Is a porsche specialist of Oregon.

Im more carefree knowing the carbs have reparator kits..this thrusday i will take the cs to a old porsche specialist that i know. Perhaps will be only to turn a pair of screw to tune up!!

Thanks you!We read us!

Thanks. The paint color is believed to be a 1980's BMW color-sapphire blue. It was probably repainted sometime in the late 80's by a previous owner. This color is one of those hues that changes depending on the lighting conditions, it can range from silver, silver/blue, light blue, and light grey with a tint of green. At some point in the future, I am planning on a complete repaint in Polaris silver, ironically, the coupe's original color.

You're right about Sapphire blue being from the 1980s but I think the color is Baikal blue like this. VVV

I think there's some confusion on WHO's car is what color... Bert's car is sapphire, Santi's is Baikal. The darker car in Gazzol's post looks like Atlantic, but it's metallic.

Colors...

Baikal (my car) is a medium-dark blue metallic with a bit of gray in it.

The color-changing light blue sounds like Fjord Blue, another metallic, which has a bit of lavender in it if seen in good light at the right angle.

Atlantic is a dark blue with no metallic (my old 2500). Nice solid color.

But I could be all wet, too...

Hola Santi,
You should check into Walloth und Nesch in Germany for parts before you order eBay parts from the US. You will save shipping costs and time.

:D , I didnt know if Ken asked me or Bert..
I dont know the name of the code paint, but if you tell me where can i see it i will try to find it!But now the car is in the mecanic..no in my garage!

Well, later, i will put more photos to resolve the question..If you know..

Santi,

The original paint color 3 digit code is imprinted on a small plate that is riveted to an area around the left door hinges. Look for the Karmann name and the 3 numbers below it. Now this is only accurate if your paint is original or if it has been repainted according to the factory code.

When you've found this info, go to http://bmwcsregistry.org this site is pretty dead, but it does contains some useful information such as a detailed paint code section with color charts along with a very good technical service section.

The 5 speed conversion you inquired about, basically it is a simple and straightforward swap. You will need a Getrag 265 5 speed overdrive gearbox preferably and along with this, you'll need to get your existing driveshaft shortened and rebalanced. Any qualified and experienced mechanic can so this job or if you are pretty handy with a wrench, this is also a doable 'do it yourself' job.

A very detailed technical writeup on the 5 speed conversion is also in this csregistry link. It was written by carl Nelson, the premier or #1 coupe expert here in the United States. He runs a full repair shop that also specialize in restorations of vintage BMW's. If you ever need new or used CS parts, he is your source due to his huge inventory of hard to find parts. The link is www.bimmerdoc.com

This CS website is not a traditional message forum. It is supplement to their paid subscription newsletter, from all indications, they are both pretty much dead. Some of their info on their site have not been updated in months and some in years.

Thank you for your information!!

The gear swap will must to wait..but i will study the posibility..

The photos were taken in a recently married of the brother of the wife of my brother (uhhh!!), my brother insist to use the cs like justmarried car but is a coupe!!..well..the photos..
