Hello all,

New to the E9 scene. Well sort of - I have admired this car since I saw an article on one in the old Sports Car World magazine. Must have been around '73 - '74. Been looking for a project car for a couple of years with my list shortened to an E9, 2002Tii or an Alfa 105 series GTA replica. Though this is really a heart over head undertaking, pragmatism stepped in when considering returns for outlay. I would spend almost the same amount of money and time on a full restoration on any of these cars but the E9's final value will most likely reflect the input. E9s are not exactly thick on the ground here in Oz which places me in a quandary - do I wait for a good one to turn up or take my chances on an unknown prospect? Well recently a good one turned up for sale at $65,000. GASP! So it looks like the latter idea has to be the way to proceed if that's what is being asked for a good'n. With that in mind I took the plunge the other day and started with a plan to amass parts for whatever fixer upper I end up with.
First item acquired - a 265 Getrag overdrive 5 speed with selector, M30 bell housing and tailshaft. Next step is to get a good, i.e. hasn't been overheated, M30B35 for a complete rebuild by someone who knows his business.
The journey has begun.

Gazz, good to see the Aussies are doing their bit... given propensity for flooding in Qld, might need to drive your "car"around on stilts !

Buy the best one you can afford. The better example you start with the less you will need to do and you will end up spending much less in the end

Thanks Simon. You are right about flooding. So much for the Sunshine state.
If you know of any local E9ers pass it on.

Hi Stan. Yes I agree with you but due to the scarcity of E9s here I may have to take what I can get and do the work.

'74 for sale

Hi Gazz,
I may be selling my '74 CS Aust delivered car in the near future. Let me know if you are still in the market. I'm on the Coast too.

Cheers,
Al

I'm in.
Took delivery of my 1974 CS today. Haven't been over it with a fine toothed comb yet but it appears to be a car I can safely drive for a year or so till the BIG RESTO'. Immediate plan is to replace the slushomatic with the usual Getrag 265/6 ( which I have ) and fit either triple Webers ( also have ) or fuel injection, upgrade suspension where needed, fit a Nardi or Petri wheel ( disappointingly, the Petri which is pictured and which I thought was part of the deal was removed ) and address any minor niggles. Down the track will be a built motor, ( would like to find an L block ), back to metal derust and respray back to original Turkis, ( which plants the car firmly in the seventies ) and a full retrim of the interior. Here I may stray from the original as pictured in going with full leather in oxblood. Can you picture that?
That's the plan anyway so let's see what happens. BTW that's my 1M in the background.

Garry,

Congratulations.

I know a little of the history of this car. You will find yours and my car together on this page.

http://www.bmwclubact.asn.au/Album/2011_Nats/Index.html

The cars were both at the BMW National Concourse in 2011.

Also, your car spent some time in Toowoomba and was owned by a mechanic (not the owner you purchased the car from). I lived in Toowoomba from '89 to '92 and this car and my car were the only E9s in town. The mechanic kept good care of it, and it was painted red then.

Being a fan of '70 colours - I prefer the Turkis.

Well done. The cars will have to catch up agian.

Thanks Rod. The car will most likely be going to Simon at RX for the gearbox and Weber jobs in a month or so, after I get all the conversion parts together, so if you want to see it I'll let you know at the time.

If you need a pedal set for your conversion let me know, all you need to do is cover postage from Sydney.

Well done Garry, looks like a fine car you've secured.

Rod, your car looks great too...by the way,Wally ( who's building the E9 in Jakarta ...pics on Forum) has a very nice Inka CSL here in Perth that I got to see recently .

Cheers, Simon
