High beam, low beam switch ?

The high/low stalk does just what you describe, pull it towards you to flash the high beams. Are you looking for a replacement switch?

I seem to remember I had cars (VW or maybe 914) where you would just keep pulling back to change the beams. Are any of the BMW switches like that ? ~ John Buchtenkirch

I'm not clear on what you are asking.

Do you mean a toggle on/off, rather than a toggle+hold switch? The stalk on the steering column does both. You pull it back to toggle+hold, or you push it up to toggle the high beams.

He is asking for a stalk that toggles between high and low by pulling back hard until it clicks. Up and down are turn signals, on the left side of course.

That is they way the Opel's had it if I recall.

Iirc

My '67 (and maybe the '68) Type III (squareback) had this setup.

Possibly, with a little creative thinking and pondering the wiring diagram, the function of the BMW switch could be revised to accomplish hi/lo beams similar to the way the old Vee-dubs did it. But why? The switch as supplied works just fine, at least in my heap.

The e12 turn signal switch also works the high beams as you would like I think. The lever toggles to one of 2 positions. I have mine set up for high beams away from the driver. But they could easily be wired the opposite way.
It's a bolt in mechanically, (and it moves the T/Sig's to the left side).
You need to replace the connectors though. The connectors are all spades so I just put individual spades on the TS switch wires and plugged them into the appropriate positions on the mating connectors. The switch has labels on the back where the wires are soldered on that make working out which wire does what, really easy. (It also has redundant TS wires that you don't need to use, so you end up with 3 unused wires).
