Hi everybody,

Just wanted to introduce myself. Although not an E9 owner, I'm a life long E24 owner. I joined on the recommendation of my shop who said some of you might be interested in my built M30 and dogleg gearbox I'm trying to sell. Unfortunately, due to a degenerative ankle injury, my 40 years of rowing through gearboxes has come to an end. I've already sold my M635, and now it's time to sell my project car. The shell for my 1979 Series 1 E24 is being marketed elsewhere because I didn't think anyone here would be interested. But I would imagine the engine and gearbox would be of interest some of you.
With the proliferation of online scammers, I figured it might be a good idea to introduce myself like this...especially considering that I only joined to sell something. I can be found on big coupe , mye28 and various E24 based Facebook forums under this screen name or GRNH on big coupe. I only mention this to let you all know that although none of you know me here, I'm well known elsewhere.

Thanks!
-George

I'm blind.... What is estimated HP?
You're not blind!! I forgot to put it in the ad! Engine builder (VSR) estimated it at approximately 275. As for using 272 cam...I didn't have the engine built, I bought the head and everything attached to it used from another engine VSR built.

It would be interesting to know what Mario thinks but the real litmus test would be a Dyno run on a good loaded machine that is calibrated correctly. Having gone through the process and had my na Coupe and my turbo tuned with volumetric efficiency the numbers, often times, are significantly lower than an estimate versus the Dyno. Great looking engine and it would be interesting to see what Mario would hang his hat on an estimated crank HP & TQ
Regards, Jon

Sure, I understand. Personally, with this being a fairly common set of improvements, I'm sure the estimated numbers are close...and that's pretty much good for me. Dynos scare me. That's actually always been the case for me with all the cars I've owned...after seeing an engine blow up on a dyno, plus all of the crazy youtube videos of it happening, I've never wanted one of my engines...in or out of a car...on a dyno if at all possible. If I recall correctly, Mario had to put my M635 on a dyno when he first built the engine almost 20 years ago. I know, I know, give me crap because of it, I deserve it...I just don't like them, hahaha.

Well, Dynos tend to be fairly accurate measuring tools, and if an engine blows up on a Dyno, then it will on a car
when put through the wringer. I do know.

"Carbs, intake, head with cam, rockers, valve springs were purchased used (low hours) as a unit out of an E9 race car and are broken in and mated to each other, negating the need of break in."

This section of any engine does not require a lengthy break-in. Bearings and rings do, sort of, that is why you use a Dyno.
Best of luck on sale!

Regards, Alberto

It is called 'guessing' +/-....

Any idea what the jetting is on the carbs. Easy enough to pull them out and check thanks.

Nice meaty looking M30 and GLWS!

Run well on pump gas with 11.3:1 compression?

Thanks. Yeah, it certainly is good looking. I pull the cover off and look at it all the time, haha.

It should run fine on pump gas...it was built knowing that it was going to be a street engine.
