My question is this "who was the first importer of BMW automobiles in the USA" I have googled and can't find the answer to this. As a youth, I met some of the key players, but, my "craft" memory is holding me back. Seems to me we called him "Mr. Maxx" On a sting ray (Schwinn) at the time, and the first time I saw a coupe. It may have been one of the first in the states. This was 1967-1968. Any help on the history is appreciated.

That probably would be Max Hoffman. Max was the sole North American Bmw importer from the early 1950's to the early 1970's when Bmw created Bmw of North America. Mr Hoffman was probably one the main people behind the concept for the famed 507.

Thanks guys. So Mr. Max and Mr. Harvey. This was Wilton, CT. Legend says according to Mr. Dean Harvey, that his dad convinced Mr. Max to import the 1600. It sold for less than the VW Beetle. I think I saw a member in Wasteport, CT Please look up my mum at Max's Art Supplies(Owner)
And Dean, are you out there ?
To be continued...
