Here is a recent photo of my 2800 restoration project. Some may recall the BAT auction where I acquired it a few years ago.

Here is a question for you guys: does the body number appear in a place besides the door jamb placard? Mine is unreadable and I would go to retap a replacement.

Are you referring to the VIN or the Karmann number under the placard? The VIN appears on the engine starter pad, the top of the steering column (USA cars), and the passenger side firewall top. I don't think the Karmann number is anywhere else.

Would BMW have any records of body numbers?

They have no records. This is just a sequential number apparently used by Karmann during production. They started the numbers over with the start of 3.0CS production.
