My hood release lever has decided to let go and won't hold the cable between it's arms anymore. Anyone have a good one they could part with? Stan, how about the parts car?

Chris:

While you could substitute a used lever, it will probably fail in the same way. The force on that cable is pretty high and the lever is not that well designed. Someone needs to come up with a titanium replacement!

I repaired my lever by using an 8-32 screw, about 3/4" long + a flat washer that clamp the two pieces together ahead of where the cable attaches. Here's a photo that attempts to show what I did.

Wish we had thought to just have you look at my kluged fix at Cars & Coffee this morning!

Still available new. 51231810980 according to Penske. $40 before discount. Might want a new plastic handle too?

What's not making sense is that an 02 lever sure looks the same in detail but doesn't show up on the part cross reference.

I like Jay's fix, but would weld it vs. screw.

Thanks, got a spare right now. Precious little room to drill a hole and add a screw too. Mine was bent in two places and rivet was loose. Believe it or not, the 2002 lever tightens in the other direction.
