Is the bar that supports the hood the same between the E3 and E9? I need the Bavaria bar, but I can only find the E9 unit.

Do I recall DeQ having a little blurb on rebuild of the spring mechanism?

These things just don't cut the mustard as I have re welded mine twice and since it cracked in two different spots, I cannot blame my welding. I think if you toy around enough with your car that you will open and close the hood a lot, then if yours is functional in any way, just leave it. If you want a concourse car, then change it.

Mine is completely gone, so there is nothing there to rebuild. I've seen a few threads where guys have gone to a more modern hood strut and I'm leaning towards just going that route. I'm in no way going for a concourse build, so it may be the better solution.

I have seen "somewhere" a picture of an e9 with the hydraulic piston type hood props (one on each side) I personally would consider that an upgrade :-)

Doug Dolan has a setup on his coupe that eliminates the Torsion bar -- I think Korman added this to enable room for the M5 engine. I don't recall the precise arrangement (hood props or whatever), but I think it was a setup from an e9 CSL.

Right. Korman had to remove the hood torsion bar to clear the M5 engine. He installed a simple strut on one side to hold up the trunk, like to CSLs.
