Body shop brining my car home , car was not properly tied down

There is a small sheet metal tab under the car where the "j" hook was attached . The tab was ripped out and the car was pulled coward. There was nothing structural about the tab. The shop is claiming the tab should have taken the weight. I am in the process of contacting the state DMV .

That really sucks, should tie to the subframe or use wheel webs. Is it really that difficult?

Hope the shop can fix it like nothing happened and the tow company foots the bill.

Arrg! Is this the shop's flatbed? I can't imagine that a competent towing company would do this.

I deal with tow companies on a daily basis. You can never assume they are competent. The drivers don't get paid very much and they all have a fairly high turnover rate. We've had to tell some companies that we never want to see certain drivers transport our vehicles again. Attaching to that sheet metal "tie down" loop is like attaching a J-hook to a steering tie rod. Its just dumb. The tow company might have insurance for this kind of thing if you can get them to admit any fault.

That really sucks, I hope you get sorted real soon, that wouldn't happen in the UK the towing companies here use special straps that go around the tire. Moreover it is down to the operative of the tow truck to ensure that he/she has tied down the vehicle in the correct and safe way, they are the professionals (hmmm) they should know weather or not the tie down used is safe or not.

Thanks for everyone's comments , the car is being fixed I will post a photo of the finished project. I was told "it looks worse than it is " we will see.
