How do I attach the Bumper Over-rider?

Can anyone tell me how this is done? I bought the bumper over-riders but did not get any of the mounting hardware. Do these attach underneath the bumper? Do they also attach somewhere on the body. The picture below appears to have two parts - 18 & 19. Do these go on both sides on the lower portion of the bumper - above and below? Is there a bolt and nut? Do parts 9, 13, 15, 16, 17, and 20 have anything to do with attaching the over-rider? Hard to tell from the picture. Also, it appears many of these items are no longer available. Has anybody rigged something from other common hardware? Thanks.

hi

i did it many months ago, but i remember more or less

the parts you mentioned can be found in almost any hardware shop,

the 19 will be inisde the bumper and you will fix the part number 14fix to it with bolt number 15

the 18 seems to be a spacer (probably there is a gap between the part 14 and the main bumper part, you can use washers if it is the case

but the key, is something that does not appear in the drawing, you can see that part number 14, has a front hole in a flat sheet metal, there yuou have to install a bolt from the car sheet metal in the rear, i have checked it now in my car, and i can feel an hexagonal-head bolt (M6 i guess)

please ask me if something is unclear

regards

parts 18 and 19 seems to be prestol cages or threaded clips, you put on the bumper , near holes, and then you bolt on some bolt with cone thread ...dunno the right translation of those parts,sorry....

dont do it

imo, the back bumper looks much cleaner without the overriders, especially if the hole in your rear skirt is not already there, dont drill another hole in your coupe.

Hasn't been mentioned--

there is a seal between the over-rider and the bumper. As a general rule there should never be metal to metal contact in or on any bumper parts nor most exterior trim parts.

He was looking for rear bumper guard guidance, they don't go throught the bumper. The rear bolts rust even worse than the fronts as they trap water and all kinds of junk.

More confused?

So Chris are you saying that the over-rider for the rear bumper doesn't actually attach to the rear bumper but just sits below it and that the over-rider only attaches to the body of the car itself?

If you look at the underside of the rear bumper there are two cut square openings. I just assumed that is where the over-riders attach. Further, if there were holes in the metal on the body, they were filled and can't be seen.:?

A big old honkin' bolt goes throught the body but there is also one hex head screw inside the bumper pointed down, perhaps with a speed nut in the guard, I am not sure. Peter put it together, he may have modified the approach with the screw. This is for a `73 of course, the bolt is shown on 51/8 and 9. Don't know why 51/7 shows no bolt. I could be way off!

i told you in the first answer

the over-rider attachs both to the bumper and to the body, to the bumper with a conic bolt, and to the bumper with a metric M6 hexagonal headed bolt

did you find a hole in the sheet metal of your car in that area ? (well 2 holes, one in each side of the car), if they had been covered you have 2 possibilities:

1- do not attach the overriders in you car
2- make new holes in your body, probably they would be covered with a mastik you might find the place with a small magnet ?

you lucky, i found all my photos, pass and take a look !

Thank you. This was very helpful. The body holes were filled but I re-drilled them. My biggest confusion was in how to attach them to the bumper. For now I attached them only to the body and it seems pretty secure. Perhaps I will do it the proper way when I rechrome the bumpers. At that point I guess I can attach the over-riders to the bumper and then attach to the body. Is your color Naucht Blau? Looks nice. Mine is. I just about completed the restoration of the trunk. Interior next - carpet, wood, seats. Thanks again.

yeah
you must attach them also to the bumper; for that te bumper should have a rectangular hole in which you can place a little metal piece that will accept the conic threaded screw that will come from the overirder
in the case you do not have that opening; a normal hole will do provided you use a nut and bolt assembly
in my opinion is important to fix it to the bumper
so; when you can; just do it ! ;-)
