I need to remove the outside mirror but can't find my way.

I figured that there were two screws from inside the door
holding it on to the door skin. Well, I took the gasket from
around the mirror, removed the glass and found 1 set screw
that held the two pc. together. The base was solid. I have
gutted the door of all trim, glass to find that there is a panel
covering the length of the door ( and the attaching screws
for the mirror) and is welded together with the door skin
at the top. No way to get to the screws.

So, before I drill 2 large holes where I think the screws
should be, will some one confirm how the mirror is attached.

I just noticed the placement of my mirror is about 14" from
the front door seam. I also see that there is an indent in
the inner panel at about 3". Where are your mirrors mounted?

Thanks, Steve

I know that you guys will correct me if I'm wrong.. I think is the same as a 2002. The black gasket has a little "thumb" of rubber that sticks up on the back trailing edge of the base where it attaches to the body. If you fold it back, you will find a screw that does a press fit (think bathroom towel-rack ..) that, when removed or loosened, the mirror base will lift straight away from the body,or a slide/lift. Do please correct me if that's not right. On 2002's, unfortunately, said screw would many times corrode (the Horror!!!) and make things a bit more difficult. The screw is (was) steel, and the chromed base is zinc die-cast(AKA white-metal, or pot metal), and will pit with the best of them.
