I've read there were anywhere from 57 to 167 Batmobiles produced. Does anyone know the correct number?

What's the going rate of a CSL and CSL Batmobile, both in good condition?

Not sure of the numbers of "bats" produced but they go for silly money. Here in the UK last year at one of the London auction houses one made arround £85,000 (pounds sterling) Working on the basis that here in the UK the CS Coupe is worth a lot less than they are in America I wouldn't even try to guess what they would be worth over there.

I was also shocked to see the price that car fetched ... I did hear afterwards that the car went to a collector in the Middle East ... perhaps that helps explain the high price  :?

CSL production, from http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=1

3.0 Carburettor (LHD): 169 built from 9/71 thru 7/72
3.0 Injection (LHD): 429 built from 9/72 thru 6/73
3.0 Injection (RHD): 500 built from 9/72 thru 1/73
3.2 injection (LHD): 110 built from 7/73 thru 10/73, 57 built from 1/74 thru 10/75

Correct, but only a small subset of the CSL production are Batmobiles.

Wikipedia says 57. http://www.usautoparts.net/bmw/models/vintage/batmobile.htm says 167.

According to the green Mobile Tradition coupe book (Profiles 5, p/n 01 09 0 004 125), there was an initial run of 110 Bats (3,153cc) in July 1973. Between 6/74 and 10/75, 57 more were built.

The US CS Registry also bears these numbers out:
http://www.bmwcsregistry.org/Coupe_Information/e9production.html

So, 167 it appears to be.

Value? Consider that many auctions (Barrett Jackson, etc.) have open bars for the folks with fat wallets.

While road legal Bats have an almost mythical status I assume this was all to do with Homolgation issues, there were surely alot more racing cars out there, even if based on "lesser" models and ended up with all the bits screwed on.
My question would be whatever happened to them. A few no doubt crashed and written off but are they hiding in sheds somewhere?
I should be told.
