So I'm going to go take a look at a few coupes this weekend both are in running condition and need body work such as rocker panels and the usual areas. What is an average price for something like that? I was think $4k ish but don't really know. Both located in SoCal if region matters on price.

Be very, very careful at that price. Rust in the rocker is common but repairs are very costly. Spend as much as you can afford on a nicer example. Don't be seduced by the first one you examine.

You could sink $50K easy into a $4K rust bucket. Take your time, let some e9ers do an autopsy on anything you are seriously thinking of purchasing. And there will still be surpri$es.

I appreciate the feed back guys, I would go up to around 10k here is one I will be checking out ImageUploadedByTapatalk1366333399.410317.jpg and also one on eBay that looks like a project..

"The most expensive you car you ever buy will be a $4,000 e9."

Maybe not. I once got a total rustbucket 2800CS for 800, took a few bits and sold it for 750. The buyer put it up for sale two weeks later for 1500. I phoned and scolded him (my idea of humor). I don't know what he ever got for it.

The spirit may be willing but the flesh is weak. Especially in the case of that shock tower. Scary.
I would buy much closer to that $10K figure you floated. And of course be prepared to go a bit? higher.
"Remember what the doormouse said," TAKE YOUR TIME - BRING A COUPESTER.

A friend failed to do that and sunk over $10K into a RHD Bavaria that he sold for $3,000 to a guy in CA who flipped it for $6,000.

Yeah I spoke to the seller and he said around $2400 to repair the outer rocker on top of the $7500. I don't think this is the one for me. But I still do want to take a look at it in person. Hmm, decisions.

My concern is the rust in the general area indicating its been neglected and the lifting of the sound deadening which may indicated more problems underneath. And now we find that rockers need significant work.
