How to attach a front spoiler?

Need some advice on the most "appropriate" way to fit a CSL style front spoiler.

Screws or something else?
How to position the spoiler? Though it seems to really only go on one way in order for the outer edges wrap into the wheel wells.

I have some extra rubber chrome wheel arch trim gasket which fits quite well to the edge of the spoiler that contacts the car body though if someone has a better idea say so.

Thanks in advance.

I fitted mine to be used with the bumper. Used stainless screws and neoprene washers from a local hardware store.

I started in the center, drilled and added the screws and washers on the inside of the fender lip, and split the distance until I had 11 to 13 total screws. I followed the CSL spacing as close as possible from pics I found online. which I'v attached.

Are you keeping the bumper? I think that the main support for my spoiler is the two big bolts at the ends of the bumper. The numerous small screws are mostly for support and alignment. Be careful when tightening them, the sheetmetal underneath is thin and easily stripped (DAMHIK)

Related question: Can a front spoiler be installed properly without removing the front bumper ?

Thanks guys, great responses. Does someone have close up pics of fitment with a Euro bumper and where it can be utilized to support the spoiler. My main concern is the apparent flimsiness of the CSL type fitting.
I was thinking of making up brackets to go behind the spoiler and run under the front apron.

Here's some shots of mine. No shots of the sheet metal screws across the front but, in general, I think the big bolts that hold on the bumper are the main support. The sheet metal screws are more for alignment in my case. The rubber donut is actually a G.M. engine mount of some sort from NAPA. I can find the P/N is you really need it

Also, mine came with the tabs you can see going inward at the front of the fender. I cut one of them off because it rubbed on the tire, really close clearance. I should cut the other one off too as they don't seem to do anything structurally. What was odd was the variance between the left and right side clearance but I guess that comes from age.

I'm glad do see that I'm not the only one who felt the need for something more substantial to insulate the front (& rear) bumper ends from the paint. In my case I took a new sway bar bushing and cut it in half-so there were 2 donuts and that way they are pretty much invisible- but anything is better than a thin piece of material that seemed to be stock.

Hi Gazz,

Just been going through the process of fitting a front spoiler with the stock bumper, this is what we did.
Bumper off , spoiler mounted with rivbolts stainless screws and nylon washers.
Replace bumper and mark on spoiler where the lower end of the bumper meets the spoiler, the bumper is shaped to fit the curve of the panel and is narrower at the bottom than the top leaving a large gap, we got around this by cutting a crescent shaped slot into the spoiler that the lower edge of the bumper will fit into allowing the bumper bottom edge to 'disappear' and cleaning up the look whilst using the original mountings. Hope this discription makes sense.

Cheers John

Hi John,

Thanks for that. Yes I think I get it though I do like the spacer idea shown above. I'll have to see what I run into when I fit the bumper - though I suppose I could test fit it and see.

Best, Gazz

Hi Gazza ,

Pm me your mobile and I can txt you some shots from my phone, only rough fitted because car is due for paint next week and I am struggling to post shots on here from tablet, hope to be able to work this out and share resto process with the board.

Cheers John

Unless it's a track car and your never planning on parking on public streets......keep the bumper!!!!!!!! No question. Nobody will ding you for looks. More original anyways...they look fine with bumpers on...but don't take my word for it, talk to everyone on here that didn't have front bumper on parking parallel on public streets and have no more front ends!

I tried to scribe my air dam but was off.

Hi Gazz!
Hope it's not to late!
You need at least to be three persons to get tolerances tight towards the bumper when marking the cut outs on the sides.
Heavy front bumper with flexible joints and tightness towards spoiler makes it a PITA to gain the exactly cut outs on the spoiler.

Not too late. I've learned not to jump in too quickly with modifications, especially anything non-reversible.

What screws are recommended? And has anyone run a finishing strip around the edge of the spoiler where it meets the car body? I seem to recall seeing this on someone's car.

I used stainless screws with neoprene washers, no spacer between the body and air dam. Could use a small spacer between the air dam and body with some fender welting or plastic washers.

I used stainless rivnuts and found some flat rubber strip that has a round thicker edge, approx 20mm wide 1mm thick with a round edge profile of 3mm

I also modified the top visible edge of the spoiler, where it meets the wing and nose cone, with new mat and resin and did the same on the rear vertical edge with an angled shape to fill in the gap between spoiler and wheel arch, the spoiler edge is vertical and front wing curves in and I didn't like 'the hole' between the two panels. I also painted stone guard on the inside to rubberise any contact with the paint
