Guys, I'm trying to work out how to remove the demister switch from my 1974 csi . It's located in the gearshift console (which has been removed from the car). It looks as though the circular base plate for the demister knob ( that sits on top of the aluminium cover piece ) screws into something on the underside of the console. There also seems to be a type of "key" set into the base plate but I don't want to go forcing anything as it will invariably break . I have applied some some penetrant without success . Suggestions please !...and yes, photos might help but have yet to master

Cheers, Simon

That "base plate" with the grooves in it should just unscrew (anticlockwise)

....hmmm...thought that might be the case . Might have to try and make up a tool for the grooves to try and get more leverage ( hopefully some "genius" has not introduced glue !). At least you've pointed me in the right direction so much appreciated . Cheers, Simon

No problem, and yes a tool would be a good idea, anything to brutal will just wreck the ring as they are only aluminium
Hopefully it will just be on dry and done up tight, and not been loctited on.

Good luck
