Hello e9 freunden,
Does somebody have information or a picture of how originally the outer fender was welded to the A post? Spot weld or MAG welded (chain welded)
The most cars have the practical chain welding. But was this also original?
I found a picture on the internet a non restored e9. It looks like it was spot welded. Although I don’t know if’s possible.

Vielen Dank für der Bilder. So es gibt auch Punktschweißen!!

Thank you very much for these pictures. There are indeed spot-welds!!

Very rare to see those original fenders on e9

Good to know!
Great pics @Breiti.

Interesting to see that besides the spotwelds, also 3 blob/strip welds are used, likely to fix it in place prior to placing the spotwelds.

Going to be difficult to reproduce these spotwelds. I guess use a large copper plate on the outside fender, and a single point elektrode and just push the panels together with the copper tip?

I'd plug weld, then dress the welds flat and with a Dremel or something similar you can replicate the dimple of a spot weld
