Hungarian garage who have restored six BMW 507

BMW built more than one boat. At least two belong to a friend here in the States. I know this for a fact. Steve

Video

Hi Steve,

Thanks for that.

Its a lovely Video, but there are actually three 507 boats. Two made in conjunction with Abatte. The first one was built for Helm Glockler (of Porsche fame) and BMW took this to different shows around Europe, showing what could be done, they were looking for orders in the range of 80 - 85 as this was how many 401/507 marine engines they had built, but 1958 was not the best of years for BMW. There was actually only an order for one more, so this became the second BMW/Abatte boats.

The Helm Glockler boat ( my boat)he kept until he passed in the 90s, after his passing it was fully restored in the Abatte facility over many years and I purchased from the guy who restored it, it is sitting proudly in my garage as we speak

The second BMW/Abatte boat is now being restored on the East coast of the US.

The dealer on this Video who has this boat is a nice guy, but he is a dealer :-)

The Rambeck boat, is the only Rambeck boat, that is absolutely true, but it is not the only 507 boat.

Pete

Lovely.

Reminds me of a childhood family friend's Chris Craft I learned to water ski behind.

Thx for sharing.

Gents,

Well, everybody knows what I paid now Stan.......:-):-P Just jesting sir, at least the guys have some good pictures now. BTW, the Euro was a lot stronger then, I wish that was all I paid!

You have to laugh reading this again. Somebody at the auction (which was at the factory if you don't mind) informed me when I bought it that the other boat was destroyed, so I went looking for its history and found the damn thing in Italy, not destroyed at all, a restoration project, but far from destroyed. Also, I then found there was a 3rd boat, they convenient forgot to mention the Rambeck one as seen in the Video.

The auction was crazy, I was there and there was nobody bidding and I was thinking "ok, this is an important part of BMW history, a historic racer owner and serious Porsche connection, whats wrong?" The reality was, there was nobody bidding on anything, so I played the negotiation game after the auction and gave them one bid, absolutely nothing on top, they would have to get their money from the seller. After much back and forth, I became the owner of the "unique" boat (their words not mine).

Then my research started and low and behold, the other two boats appeared :-(
