I just saw a video on Youtube for a DIY "chrome" system called Hydrochrome. Well, it's actually silver plating, but when polished, what's the difference? (answer: the color).

But for all or any of us that may need to get a small part shiny again, it seems to offer a possible solution, claims to be applicable even over plastic. That would certainly beat the vacccum deposition guys a bit.

Have a look at http://customcreationpaints.co.uk/spray-on-chrome their home site, or on youtube at

A quick forum search did not bring up prior discussion of this product, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came up before.

I need to order a few samples of bits off this site for the e9s colour soon, may as well grab some and try it out on my rear light reflectors

Copy that, Please let us know your experiences, and I will also be trying this stuff out on reflectors. I have tried 'chrome' paint, 'chrome' mylar sheets, and mechanical polishing methods. None of these give exactly the same results (nor seem as toxic or as heavily regulated by the EPA) as stock metal plating methods.

I have seen some 'non-toxic' water soluble spray-on chrome videos, all needing a spray booth, exotic materials, and multiple steps, and all 'look good on camera.' Since I don't have that investment in spraying equipment, it would be a pretty expensive method.

The video shows basically the same thing I have seen, but looks less expensive with the spray bottle.

I tried it. It did not work for me. Bubbled up, splotches, etc
Gary - I'd like to pick your brains for a bit (won't hurt, I promise).
I watched the video, and seems to me they emphasized the need for demineralized water in copious quantities, and to spray liberally using their proprietary solutions. Looks expensive...
Did you use the CPP formulas? What were size and cost of the bottles?
What did you treat, and what condition was it in - new, old and rusty, somewhere in between?
Was it a metal or plastic item?

Mr. Monkey - you too, please let me know what the cost is - full size or samples?
What is the coverage area expected from their standard size?
List of the various solutions? They talk at the beginning about a treatment not shown.

My thanks to you both!

Andy
