, but there may be something... I have the plastic knobs on the end of a blinker and a headlight switch stalk that were melted in a fire and the switches are otherwise good. I don't think that these knobs were meant to come off, but I sure would like to save the switches, if I can. Has anyone done this and can share? Does anyone have any undamaged loose knobs they don't need? I realize that I may have to swap out the complete stalk together with the knob, if these do not come apart without damaging them (that's quite likely)...

I do have a headlight stalk with knob and broken switch. I am sure the knob can be replaced the harder problem is who owns the repaired product once complete, you or me?

I am feeling generous so I would say you.
 
:-) That IS a good question. At least legally. Maybe joint custody? ;-)... Of course I'd pay a modest fee for the part and shipping, but I'm not so sure the knob can be replaced without breaking it. I haven't even been able to get the melted knob off the end of the stalk on the old ones yet. I'm not done trying though.... Thanks for the offer and I'll get back to you once I've made progress...

The headlight stalk knob is threaded onto the stalk. Simply unscrew (left side of steering wheel 1972) I am not as sure about the turn signal on the right (as is also has the push button wiper feature).

Yesterday, I was moving my csl around in my garage, and I notice my ws wipers were cycling occasionally. I thought WTF! I checked the switch on the console, and it was in the off position. After, scratching my head trying to determine the cause of the gremlin messing with my wipers, I happened to glance down at the turn signal stalk and saw the little wiper symbol. Click! I remembered the wiper DELAY feature which I have never used and hopefully never will. {:>) The good news though is: It works!
 
Not sure if my shoulder is more sore from pulling than Tom's bravado is hurt but Sven is right, the knob was just threaded. So mine is out and available. If this thread was not weird enough we learned that Roger moves a CSL around inside his garage with wipers on. No wonder people think we are weird at car events.

Unfortunately, I don't think the other switch is threaded, but I check this weekend.

Are you sure you're using the wiper switch correctly? Unless your CSL is wired differently (like we owners are), the on/ off switch is usually at the stalk. The wiper speed is on the console...

Arde. Please tell me how many bucks to send your way for the button... I'm sure an envelope and one or two first class stamps would take of shipping.

They don't know funny unless we told them about how years ago we swapped e9 interiors in Sanibel Island, FL, where you brought yours in suitcases from LA and then after the swap, I arranged for you to store yours at the Miami airport with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service while you attended your brother's wedding in (I believe) South America?!!?? {:>) RB
 
Yes Roger. I think about that often. I still have that car and the panels in it. Nothing ever gets wasted. I wish I could say that was the craziest transport I've ever done. A complete side loader differential in my carry on baggage from Berlin. The internals were out because of the weight and went into my check in baggage. They x-rayed all the stuff in Berlin in a separate room for crazy car guys, but they let me limp through carrying about 40 lbs of diff. through the check-in while trying to walk somewhat upright....
 
By the way. I figured out that the wiper switch stalk also comes off although so far, I'm not sure I could get one apart without some damage to the movable stalk end. It seems to have a one way snap in feature that may only allow assemble, but not dis-assembly. Then there's the internals and the two wires for the wiper switch to contend with. The wires are quite short, there's a spring and other small parts....

Funny you mention Sanibel, since I am in the process of shipping some interior parts to Tom from my garage here on the island (where I live full time). Weird coincidence!! Pieces of interiors of two of his cars have passed through sleepy Sanibel.

Yes, that is a coincidence ...and no minor pieces at that, Scott. I'm glad we are using all these parts where ever we can and that almost nothing will ever go to waste.
