I need an intervention.... or more space.

Just could not resists. I found a nice coupe in LV, flew in yesterday morning and drove it back to Denver. 12 hour drive in a 40 year old car I bough on the internet from pictures. It was a gamble.:D

Just glad I did not have a "driving in a snow storm" story to add.

I am very happy I did, it was a great drive in a good car. The car has lots of potential and is very near the car I want.

My wife is just not pleased that she will be parking outside here at the beginning of winter....

Touring your new 3.0 CS--

looks very tidy in pics--and your long drive reminds me of having toured many thousands of miles in CS's including several trips over the top from Durango to Silverton and on to the low lands on the other side--and over Independence Pass to the now famous Aspen and other ski resorts--all in the 1970's and early 1980's. BLUMAX still wants to go.

Don't be surprised when you are often asked--who made that car--and--what year is it??

Sweet looking, Congratulations. All our newest cars are outside.

yes, the seat covers had to go. I pulled them out today and the warn out leather looks better.

My wife saw the pile of seat covers on the floor and thought I had bought a halloween costume of a bear or something.

hmmm

Looks like a '73 from the front bumpers, and I'm guessing it's Atlankik, with some kinda BRIGHT silver paint on the wheels.

How much?

Already have a lift, love it.
I am just trying to put 7 cars in a 4 car garage. I can get 6 and still have a little space to work.

Maybe I need an inclosed trailer.... mobile garage.

congratulations waynesie. i remember seeing the ad for the car on bimmerfest or bimmerforums a couple of weeks back. looks like a good one.

and as stevehose has pointed out, this is seriously the wrong place to ask for an intervention. this past summer i did almost the exact same thing: took a nice early flight down to philly and drove a 35+ year old car (not an e9) back to new hampshire. except for the seller telling me that it "ran well" and a ppi from a shop that i never dealt with previously, there wasn't much other than my stupid excitement that told me that it was a good idea. you only live once. [btw, the car died on the next drive out around town.]

New Coupe

Reminds me of my coupe purchase 5 years ago. I would look at coupes when I had a business trip near (or anywhere close) one for sale. Went to South Carolina, rented a car and drove to southwest Georgia and bought my e9. Then I called my wife and told her I had bought car (fortunately she was having dinner and drinking wine with my daughter). I drove it home from Georgia to Baltimore - what a hoot and never a regret since.

A 4 car garage - sigh, drool - I only have room for 2 (of course the e9 is one).

We must be a daring group... I drove my E9 from San Pedro CA to Portsmouth NH when I bought it. Only one problem along the way. A blow out in OH. Guess the tires were way too old for the trip!

I got the car for $10.5K, I think I got lucky, or that is what I keep telling myself. It was a buy-it-now or best-offer on ebay.

The guy I bought it from just wanted out. He bought it because it was pretty, but did not know anything about fixing other than taking it to a mechanic. After spending a sizable amount of cash to get it working it was still not working.... the mechanic could fix everything but the electrical. The next mechanic he went to get the wiring taken care of gave him a really high quote, so he was happy to give up the car before dropping even more into it.

So it has a major wiring mess under the dash, paint is not perfect and the front seats are pretty bad. Stock, 73 4 speed with Atlantik paint, tan leather. It is a pretty car from 15 feet away, and not bad from 5 feet. I really like the Atlantik color, very classy.

We were able to get the head lights to work, but no wipers, turn signals or hi beams.

Now that it is home it looks like several attempts to add radios and accessories over the years made the fuse box area a problem. It has lots of extra wires, splices, switches and knobs that are mostly disconnected.

Also, after the 750 mile trip from LV to Denver the radiator and water choke hook ups are leaking, the battery looks like it bubbled over, and there is something loose in the steering.

All in all it is a fine find for me, as I can fix most everything with a little time myself. I have been looking for more than a year for the right project and this is it.... and yes at $10.5K it is a project.

I bought another CS earlier this year, spent half the money, but had to have it shipped from the east coast and it is a much bigger project. Luckily a friend of my is more than eager to take it off my hands for about what I have into it, so my space problem is contained for now.

I need to stop looking on the internet for deals, I was even looking this morning.... I need an intervention.
