My Bosch battery is not holding a charge any longer. If sitting for a week or so, it goes dead. I think one of the cells is bad. Nothing has changed and now it dies, i.e. no new radio, load on battery etc....

I tried jumping the other night with my Tii to no avail...

Now I need suggestions on a NEW battery...what do you all recommend? Battery is in stock location upfront...What amperage is best etc?

Thanks!

bigger battery

Neal, you'll be constrained by tray size unless you've relocated your voltbox to the trunk.

Batteries have become a commodity item, there are only three major manufacturers remaining. IIRC. You may as well measure your tray they go to the local big box store (Costco, Kmart, Sears, whatever) and see what they have that will fit. Then look at cost.

You have to consider CCA (cold cranking amps) and RCA (reserve cranking amps). Given your location, I suspect CCA is the more important number. There are excellent explanations of the difference online.

All said and done, if the battery has removeable caps, it is intended that the owner check the electrolyte level occasionally, and more frequently in hot weather. It's one of the first things I do with a new-to-me car, and I almost always find the battery low on electrolyte. This gives you an opportunity to clean the terminal posts as well, and smear on a little grease to keep the corrosion at bay.

Pep Boys in Philly?

I did a quick search and a small amount of research and determined I'll be getting a Bosch battery from PepBoys.

Its $108 (if you throw in your battery core), but its Bosch, which in my mind is a good fit for for our car.

Hi Neal!
I've been using Interstate MTP-24s for years.

Battery tenders aren't practical for me, so I use the rotary on-off switches that mount on a battery terminal so there is no current drain and the batteries hold a charge well and (most) last a long time.

last i knew, the Bosch batteries are purchased and labeled as Bosch. i don't believe that Bosch makes these car batteries. a few years ago i read something to this effect in consumer reports.

"According to the terms of the contract, Exide will supply nearly 600 Pep Boys locations with a wide range of automotive batteries, adding to the Pep Boys Bosch-branded lineup that includes 16 different SKUs -- a range that fits more than 90 percent of vehicles on the road today in both the United States and Puerto Rico.

The Exide Bosch-branded batteries are manufactured and distributed at Exide's Salina, Kansas and Bristol, Tennessee facilities. In addition, Exide will service Pep Boys stores through its extensive customer service network".

I am saving my nickels so when my batt goes I will get an Optima red top - less corrosive and much lighter than Interstate, which would be my second choice as they have always been reliable for me.

i totally agree ... sooner or later i will go the optima route ... put one in my e30 m3 and it was great. and they don't leak.
