I need help! Steering wheel hysteria... Which is the correct e9 sport wheel?

I got two leather wheels from Murray and another one from Europe... The wheels that Marty sent are the same as the one on my 1972 CSi and they are supposed to be the "Sport" wheel... Those have the single large horn button in the center. The other wheel has 3 horn buttons in the spokes but unlike most E9 wheels the buttons are satin chrome and end pieces like the wood wheels...

Then there is the issue with horn buttons... Murray says that the totally flat horn button was on his car from new (a early 1970) All of the other horn buttons I have seen have the ridge on the horn button.


Another issue is that some of the wheels have the brushed chrome pieces at the end of the spokes and behind the horn button while other have the same parts that are fully chrome. I actually like the chrome better...

Who knows what the hell is going on and which wheel is correct on each car?

No need to fret.

The upper two are sport wheels, horn is in center. Just like on 2002s, early wheels had the flat button, later cars got the one with raised ridges.

The bottom two are standard BMW wheels, wood and leather, respectively, with horn buttons on the spokes.

My leather wheel has satin buttons on the spokes and is a `73 vintage wheel. Perhaps earlier cars got more chrome.

And the original bus wheel on my `69 2002 looks like the leather coupe (except larger) wheel but horn buttons are black with raised hub ridges. I thought wood wheels had black horn buttons, the black wheels needed more bling!

And for more trivia, a very few US bound 2002s got euro only Ti sport wheels supposedly because of a shortage of standard bus wheels. These sport wheels do not have slots in the spokes, but are slightly grooved to mimic the spokes, like your sport wheels.

Thanks Chris... I heard they had called the men in white on me...

I also noticed that the leather on the wheel with satin spokes was not actually leather but a simulated leather with stitching... Some early 911s also had the fake leather on their wheels...
