Had a chance to meet George aka nyccsi yesterday. At 16 degrees, the weather was a nuisance but we had a warm time; many smiles, laughs and great conversation under the Tri-boro bridge (now known as the RFK bridge). Had a wonderful time. As was posted in SirShorty's post, some of us have come across not so rememberable coupe owners.

George has a polaris Euro 73, that features many rare items and tasteful appointments. Body and undercarriage are very clean, hard to believe for a NYC car. I went with my build partner but also had to bring my girlfriend so she could see that the madness is not reserved to a few of us (Chuck and John C). Once she saw many of the same things, heard the same concerns, and build times she looked at all of us like time for rehab. I felt bad about the 5 speed transmission (getrag 265) that she saw go into the truck. She was looking forward to an automatic car that she could drive to the mall (and destroy). She wasn't happy about that part of the trip. Slippery slope? Will I have to teach her how to drive a manual transmission?

Cant wait for the weather to break and some coupe fellowship. Coupe guys seem to be coming out of the woodwork as of late. Its a great thing.

I know of a malaga CS that could use the 265, if you end up using an auto. Glad to hear work is progressing on the coupe's.
Yes, the frigid weather and salty roads have left the coupe in storage, I found myself going to the storage garage yesterday, just to visit.

Be Well

It would be great to have a NY/Queens coupe get together this Spring. Born and raised there, Astoria Park (and Pool) was my old stomping ground. And it will always be the Tri-Borough Bridge to me...

Roger,

At the risk of offending some on the board that insist that everything here is 100% coupe related, could you please post a couple of pictures of your Riviera.

My dad had the very first Riviera in the state of Missouri. My mom saw one advertised in a magazine (something like a cross between a RR and a Ferrari) and she said "now that's a car". Even tough he was trying to get his new dental practice off the ground, the car showed up a little while later with her name on the dash. The car was a couple of years old when I was born but I remember sitting in the back of it's cool interior with my two sisters. He traded it in '68 for another Riv, it wasn't quite the same.

Like the coupes, the 63-65 Riverias are some of the best looking cars ever made. I'd love to have a 65 GS in my garage someday.

Thanks,
Vince

tri state coupers meet

I think we should do a tri-state coupe meet and greet and and run in the spring. Would be great to all meet and get caught up in the lovely e9 madness. People would bug out seeing a bunch of our cars in an urban environment for sure. Was driving my coupe behind my girl who was driving my 2002 in Red Hook Bklyn and passed a guy with an 80's 6 series on the road side .He saw the 2002 first and started hooting and when he then saw my coupe he took off his hat and threw it into the street and yelled old school bimmers forever!! lots of love in bK for our cars acept when on van brunt today a 18 wheeler tried to turn into the two way street i was on and would not stop so i could only back up so my front end would not be hit but the lady behind me was on the phone and did not back up,so I tapped her bumper on her busted MB wagon. She didn't care but it was enough to rip the metal from the side rubber bumper mount of my coupe. Im have another from a spare bumper but daily driving can really suck sometimes with people that don't give a F**k about our cars or anyone else.

Vince, if you or someone can post images for me, I can email it for posting or directly to you.

John, good to hear from you! I have to play musical cars once I move it; I've been storing the coupe at a friend's shop who did the body work (Ruby has a malaga twin). My home is still a shell due to the fire so car play is still on hold but George will be meeting up with me this weekend. If weather permits, you should come down. John R in Brooklyn has a sweet nachtblue 2800cs that will turn many heads as well.

Len/SirShorty, a meet would be great. I can't get myself to say RFK either, lol. SS, there are many 02 guys in NYC that meet up regularly. Justin Gerry in Brooklyn has two sweet 02s that would make many coupe owners salivate.

George, I have reserved details on your car for you to share. I think its a marvelous example and cant wait to see it on the road.

SS sorry about the car. I watch people bumper park and drive the ass daily. Scary. I love my minivan for that reason (and it can cart sheetrock, lumber, and a tranny). Anyway, soon gents. Soon.

Wow!!

All this talk of coupes and '02's in and around NYC makes me salivate for a classic BMW of my own as well.

At the moment, all I have are die-cast models upon which to gaze.

Perhaps one day soon I'll be in the company of such stories, with a tale of my own to tell.

Hi Chuck, when will your coupe be "finished"!

Roger, we have to coordinate some kind of meet. Bringing my CS to Astoria would remind me of the days when I was a kid and used to drool over a silver coupe on 33rd street and Grand Ave. I didn't know much about them then, but knew enough on an intuitive level to understand that here was something special. I hope I never inadvertently hit it with a baseball!

Dear Lord, knock it off Chuck. You're killing me; at least driving a coupe is not a distant memory for you. Your much coveted coupe will be home soon. I can't wait to see it and your kool aid smile.

Hi Len,

I admit it. My coupe will likely always be a work in progress, only limited by my own finite resources and expertise.

Modest tweaks, inspired by great examples provided by coupe brethren,
ought to be done soon.

Also on my list is a better DIY detailing process. If you can, I'll appreciate elements of your winning recipe Len.

Chuck

Hi Chuck,

Zaino products for paint, vinyl, and rubber, and Leatherique for leather, all administered once a year with a lot of patience and attention to detail. Also, add a good chrome polish to that list...

Hey Len,

I met you at Lime Rock, but my coupe was way up in the parking lot, so you didn't get to see her.

Your seats look great-- Do you have any advice on the Leatherique treatment in regards to their restoration products? In other words, not sure if your maintenance includes dyeing and/or if you've done any restoration to your seats.

Thanks in advance,

John

Hi John, yes I remember chatting last year. My seats are original, never dyed or touched in any way. I use the the Rejuvenator Oil as per the instructions, then follow up with the Prestine Cleaner/Conditioner. I've done this every year since I've had the car. The first treatment took the longest because I really let the oil penetrate, then agitated the loose dirt and dye with a VERY soft bristle brush. (The seats, front and back, were out of the car.) I think I repeated that process three times. The seats were noticeably cleaner, brighter, and softer, so the effort was definitely worth it. Now the maintenance work is easier...
