My 73 CSi starts fine, idles smooth when engine is cold; after warm-up, idle revs up & down between 5k and 10kish; without stalling. I'm sure there can be a number of things causing this, so...any advise would be appreciated?

I think this baby is open when the engine is cold, allowing more air flow into the intake, and closes when the engine warms up. If yours is not closing, then your mixtures will be too lean.

I'm guessing you mean between 500 and 1000...
That was my assumption as well.
That is usually a big air leak somewhere.

wrong fuel ratio can cause hunting.
Vacuum leak can cause high idle.
put your palm over the filter to to your AAV to find if it is sticking open.
