What am I doing wrong? I tried it every which way but it looks to me like it's fabricated incorrectly. What do you think?

Thanks
James

James, I just went out to my car to check and there is something wrong with the way that one is made. I tried to upload a picture but I'm out at the ranch and have very poor internet. there should be more of an angle so if you were to draw a straight line from the brace bar through the allen head it should hit the center of the nut on top of the ring (if that makes sense) in your picture it would go above it, so that needs to be returned- sorry

Thanks guys. I emailed Ireland. Hopefully they can just send out the strut top pieces and the bar is OK.

Cheers
James

My IE strut bar didn't fit, though I was assured it would fit, turned out to be a piece of junk. The strut tower brace welds cracked & bent. The bar hit the intake plenum and radiator tank. So I sent it back for and put it towards a stainless exhaust for my 2002Tii. Which I hear from the 2002 community is a real pain to install.

The build quality of the IE strut sure doesn't look very good. Looks like it would break instead of brace.

I believe the same supplier for the IE brace made the one I have in my car and mine doesn't fit properly. I returned it to Carl Nelson, they sent it back saying "this looks like all the others I have; you must be doing something wrong." Peter helped me install it; and we had to put a lot of pressure on it from both ends in order to get the bar below the tab for the hood light. I subsequently found that the towers that hold the bar in place hit my hood on both sides, so my hood doesn't fully close. I've filed and sanded the tops of the towers, but still have this problem.

I am going to switch to one of the replica Alpina bars. Gary Knox and I are putting together a group buy to enable a discount on these: http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/threads/strut-bar-group-buy.23627/

Its not just the weld quality. Look at the variation in the towers, in terms of height and angle. My guess is that there is a single supplier for all of these types of bars, and that the supplier isn't doing quality control.
