I have my new Ignition switch harness ( thanks John ) in.1972 Csi.. I do not have my ECU and wiring harness in. The switch harness came with a white plug on the end I removed it and exposed the connectors. They go to the fuse box.
There are 4 wires Black,Red,Purple, and Green.
The old switch was wired to.
Red fuse 5
Green fuse 6
Purple fuse 10
Black to a black wire that ran into the harness in the motor bay. Not sure about that one??
This is how i have mine wired now and when I turn my key I hear a relay klick under the dash but the starter does not turn over.
Do I need the ECU and harness hooked up? or should it turn over without?
If someone could check there's or look at a diagram.I sure would be thankful...

Barry,

I'm at work so I don't have the diagram in front of me. The engine should turnover regardless of the ECU. I think the black you dont know about goes to your starter solenoid. Do you get 12V between the black wire and ground when you turn the key all the way to the start position?

Agree should crank without the ECU
Battery fully charged?
Wiring connections sound?
Engine earthed (grounded) OK?

Electrical switch on the end of the ignition barrel is known to suffer from bad contacts. Checks with a multimeter will show if working but beware will show the volts and not the amps required.
