The start function on my 74 3.0 quit...nothing happens when I turn the key except the idiot lights go on. New switch? Or can i fix it myself? I rigged up a remote starter switch so I have some time to fool around with this. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

ignition switch revisited

I believe this issue has been previously addressed. See for example: http://www.e9coupe.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1761&highlight=ignition+switch

You might consider making your temporary fix more permanent with an "old school" start button hidden somewhere as a "theft deterrent." I think some of the newer cars are using this format. (Sorry if this notion offends some of the purists out there!).

Good luck and keep us posted as to your progress.

If you have an automatic there is a "Start Relay" which is enabled by the "P" position that could also be the problem.

remote starter switch

I installed a remote switch...got it at Autozone.. in the left glove box. Turn the key on and push the switch and I'm back in business. Will tackle the ignition switch next spring. Thanks for the help.
