Ignition Wires

So I've been busy in the engine bay this winter and have made good progress cleaning, treating minor surface rust, and replacing hardware with factory parts whenever possible.

Time to move on to the ignition wires. The wires and connectors are fine, but the tube itself is splitting at the seam. Its pretty obvious that the wires have to be run through the tube before the connector ends are installed. Is this difficult? Do I need a special crimping tool?

Just twist the wire in a circular motion to secure it, no tools.

Hi Len - I just replaced my wires l this weekend. I found it easiest to start with the cylinder 6 wire, plug it in to the distributor cap, then fish it through the tube. I used a small amount of dielectric grease to help the wire go in to the spark plug connector boot easily without bending. Then proceeded with 5-4-3-2-1 using a small pair of needle-nose pliers to pull them out once I could see them through the holes in the tube.

Thanks, guys. I've seen tools for aligning and cutting the wire, and for proper crimping. Seems like this is overkill? Also, Travis, did you reuse the factory cap and plug connectors?

Len, the silicone boots were very old and cracking so I replaced the whole set. I ordered a new Bosch set that included the boots & connectors from RockAuto.com for around $50. The car is running much smoother now and the misfiring has stopped.

Google Kingsborne Spark plug wires. He is in Los Angeles and makes a good a product as you could want

I'd like to stay stock, is there much of a difference between the Bosch caps and BMW's?

Someone else probably knows better than I do, I don't think my car had the stock wires. They look very close but maybe not identical, as far as I can tell based on other photos I have seen.
