installation question - top of doors

okay guys, the chromed exterior door cap has three pieces of rubber / brush.

1. the lower rubber trim (#5) is very easy to install - no questions here

2. the brush (#11) is also relatively easy to install - no questions here

3. the cap seal (#12) is a different story - there is a fatter bottom to keep it in place (which makes sense). the question is how in the hell do you get it in place? i've tried to push it from one end (well lubricated) and could only get it so far. i tried pushing it down into the slot (again, well lubricated) and not much success. i tried opening up the slot a bit, and repeated both methods ... again, very little progress.

if anybody has had some success with this piece of rubber ... would love to know what you did.

Took a very long time when I replaced mine but pushing and sliding it with vaseline eventually worked. No learning curve though the second one took just as long as the first.
 
i will try that. i opened it up some, obviously not enough. appreciate the idea and the caution. luckily the back edge has a thinner wall than all of the chrome. after you get it in, do you tap it closed some?
