Installing front door welts

I must be spatially challenged because I can’t seem to figure out which door welt goes where and how.

As I understand it, the welts are supposed to PEEK OUT from the door card... but given the way I have laid these out in the attached photo, which is the only way to get metal trims to follow the contour of the doors, the welts would sit UNDER the door panel. I’ve flipped these over and upside down and still nothing seems to make sense.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

The metal trims and their welts mount to the body, not the door. The door has simple welts only.

Yes, the door welts aren’t as fat either. I have pics of the door welts in the decon thread. May have the body welts also.

I purchased the 8mm ones from cs-werke which are supposedly for this application but even those look too thick.

If you had to take a SWAG at it, how thick would you say your welts are?

My door jamb welts are 9.5mm. Didn’t measure the little ones on the door.
