Lots of blue tape on the fender and gas door, remove filler neck from tank. Door needs to be partially open, which is hard to do. Be sure nuts fit on post before final assembly. Insert rubber, position door inside rubber, use 1/4” drive socket and extension, plug the socket so nut stays at outside edge and cross your fingers!

I have a post on here somewhere showing how to do it, even with a video if I'm right.

Edit: here is the link with further explanation:

Post in thread 'How to: Remove rubber around the gas flap' https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/how-to-remove-rubber-around-the-gas-flap.8518/post-287195

Trick is the most forward thread, that is probably your issue.
The plate of the fuel door needs to clear that thread. Either cut a slot in the plate to allow it to simply slide, or make a groove on the back, to allow it to slide over the thread enough forward to lower itself over the thread.
Helpfull explanation? If not search for my video.

Hope it went ok, it is a difficult task. Hope you got a new rubber seal house so you never have to take it off again.
