Hi,

me and Wally were trying to figure out where this part goes and only place we could think of was the underside of the dash. Is that correct?

Thanks,

Johan

The pre cut slits in do fit perfectly with the shape of the underside of the dash. And it makes sense to have in there to eliminate vibrations. But it is not obvious that it goes there.

Johan - It seems that this piece would be too thick to fit between the wood dash tray and the metal support. BMW may have made an incorrect part (see paragraph below). The attached photos (72 CS) show very thin pieces of foam scattered about at locations where the wood touches the adjacent metal - and not one continuous piece.

As an aside, I know that the new foam BMW provides for the toolbox interior is also way too thick. It was around 18 mm thick and firm, when what was needed should have been around 4-6 mm thick (and soft). Actually it looks just like the foam in your photo (with a peel and stick backing).

Sorry Sven, I was a bit unclear.

I did not mean under the wood I meant under the metal the dash sits on. There are two metal outliers there that match the cuts in the insulation perfectly. But apart from that it does not fit too well.

The insulation is your normal light fluffy one but but base is actually quite thick and heavy.
