Ok, so my motor swap story. While adapting the 77 530i motor to my 75 3.0 csi I decided it was best to use the 75 intake manifold in order to keep all connections the same to the car. All fuel delivery components have been tested and lines/mountings are all in good order. I cut the factory crimped fuel injector inch long rubber hoses and replaced them with high pressure clamps and hoses. The car fired right up. It had an odd whistle, high pitched. I tabled that whistle for the moment while working out other issues related to an engine swap, primarily an oil leak at the sending unit and spotty starter contact. While I repaired the oil sender I mistakenly unplugged the manifold vacuum pump. It didnt start, I figured it was the cold start valve was failing, so I shot a blast of starting fluid In there. And BOOM a backfire and the intake manifold split. That must have been my hi pitched whistle, a compromised intake. So I guess tomorrow I'll have it welded. Has anyone ever seen this?
