Open to thoughts and observations on this topic !
My car is only a driver and not likely to be much more than that, so this may not really matter, it's pretty much a keeper for me.

My car is in the upholstery shop right now and I am wondering about how important correctness is concerning the color and layout.

I was going to keep it Black on Black but I am now thinking to go red. I do not know the stock color and do not believe I can find that out ?

I have chosen a smooth thin red leather that is more ox blood in color than the dark red sample I received from World.

I believe that the headliner should be white. The dash and the door tops black. Carpet black. Is this correct?

In the car now are the Flo-fit front seats and I am having them redone, although I have the stock seats as well. The Flo-fits are very nice to sit in.

If I have extra $$, should I have the stock seats done at the same time? put stock back in ? ( harder for me to store freshly upholstered seats )

I forgot to take pictures at the shop yesterday / more pics to follow....

Also, my front and rear windows are out now and I was Sooooo happy to see that there was only some surface rust there and not anything serious, as I feared. You never really know what's there until the windows are out.

Thanks and Best Wishes
Johnny

BMW can tell you the original color, there is a Karmann plate on A pillar with paint code also. Red will look nice but I would use a charcoal grey carpet to keep the interior from being too dark. Headliner is white.

Black & Dark Red "Ox Blood" sounds great! Look forward to photos.

I'm not sure I've taken the time to fully absorb all of your questions and constraints. But here's my "high level" take on your issues:

- Sure, use the colors and materials that pleases you. If you're going to own this car for a long time, its resale value is irrelevant.

- Upholster everything now. If you try doing it piecemeal, you'll find that the material you buy later won't match the dye lot (e.g., the color) or texture of what you used today. And that will drive you nuts. Upholstering the side panels may be your greatest challenge. How will you get material with that woven texture in a shade of red that matches your seats?

Black and dark red would look incredible. I would go with 'salt and pepper' carpeting to really pull the whole thing together.

It seems to show the brochures and manuals but not what is inside these. And the paint and fabric pamphlets I do not think show the US leather samples.

it didn't work for me from mobile but from my desktop no issues - here's the ones I got covering most of the years.

File names are in the following format :-
<BMW code> <language> <Details> <Date>

So you can go to the right year for your model

As to the side panels, I had good luck using a dye from Color Plus. If you send to them a sample of the leather from your seats, they can make up a dye to match the color that you can use to change the color of your door cards.

Good point, I was on my iPad. Strange though that it only shows brown, blue and black basketweave vinyl colors and no leather colors.

Sorry assumed it would be in them. I think that they have the Cloth and Leatherette by default and its only when you had the 3.3Li in there where it wasn't an optional extra that they included it.

From looking I assume that the colours would have been what they would have offered for the 3.3Li but that said I can't imagine any dealer not doing anything to please any customer willing to pony up the cash for whatever they wanted one.

Try the AK-1112-10 ALL Colours and upholstery 01-76 for the swatches for the 3.3

I reached out to BMW Group Classic a few years back and they told me the exterior color and the date. Is there a way to get more information form them?
Thanks

I'm wondering if the dealer who's sold the car might have full car's specification?

I’ve been interested in finding out the history of my. In the pursuit of that end I received similar information from the Bmw archives. How would one discover what the dealer that sold your car was?

Two ways:
1. Car has one owner so the address was in the warranty/service book "swimming" in the glove box
2. BMW Archive provided the name and city of the dealership the car was delivered - it is still existing same place. I'm about to contact them soon.

My car was delivered to Italy, and so I would assume that there were a relatively small number of dealers in the 1970s.
If Bmw archives didn’t provide that information in their email, do they not have it, or should I email back?
