Getting things together a) to take to the interior people b) to purchase additional items.

I assume as I cannot remember my old coupe in detail…. Are all the panels of the same color? Since I am switching to blue need to know which is which. This would include the kick panels? The welting around the doors?

i know the tops of the doors etc are black.

i cannot recall my carpets color but I am sure it was not totally blue…. Maybe grey with a blue fleck? or the other way around? Of course I could be senile too.

you are correct that the blue carpet was a blend of blue + gray. the current blue carpets available are not the correct blue, and one is more gray than blue. since you can't match the original ... or at least nobody has ... you might want to look at the square weave options. IMHO, the fit / finish of the GAHH carpet seems to be better than World or KHM. KHM is better than World. that being said, a great custom from somebody who knows the coupe well is probably the very best.

Well finding someone around here that knows Coupes is highly unlikely.

I think I'd err on the side of more grey than blue. Since World seems to be gone now I think GAHH is the only option. Do they have the square weave?

I seem to remember that it was a very tight weave carpet.

Also, does anyone know if the "window winder plugs" are available anywhere?

I think it is going to be possible to reuse the door panels that came with the car and just dye them. They are the proper 2800 style. The trimmer I use is not an expert in BMW's etc so any help I can give them is a step in the right direction.

And as I sometimes do I may have answered my own question. The GAHH carpets say "multiloop" which I am assuming is not correct.

KHM does not list them at all. World is gone. CoupeKing seems to have "grey or charcoal" in square weave.

Good discussion there.

Unfortunately KHM does not seem to have them listed. Is this something that you need to contact them about?

My German is non existent.

Todd-Your door panels and welting should match the color of your seats,as said above. The GAHH German square weave is what I used in my car. They can send you samples of your preferred colors,in both square weave and nylon loop. Since your car and seats are blue, I suggest picking a color that's not blue for some contrast.
Here are pics of the square weave color I chose for my tan interior.

with KHM, they offer 3 different carpet materials - velour, 2 tone loop and haargarn boucle (square weave)

here are the blues in the square weave

here is the only blue 2 tone loop

i don't think they were. they were darker blue. the seats in this pic are '74 seats, but 74 had 1 piece carpet, not multi piece ... my bet is this interior has been redone. first clue is look at the leather wrapped armrest

Speaking of seats… what is the consensus on vendors for covers. Who has the best quality.

Obviously again, world is out so who’s who?

I’m sure there are different shades of blue and what ever I decide on is the color that my guy will tint the panels to.

Do you know who is selling 1 piece carpet ?

nobody that i am aware of makes a 1 piece carpet.

honestly, world's material wasn't that good and the kit was just okay. my coupe had tan vinyl kits from World. i now have Scheel Mann sport seats with CSL rear seats (made by a really good custom guy). honestly the product from GAHH is the best - material and the kit. i will caution you that i don't really like GAHH's tan colors, they don't seem to match the original color. the leather quality from GAHH is much better than World. that being said, a great custom upholsterer that knows the coupe will do a better job, with either GAHH kits or with custom. it will cost more, but if you want really high quality ... you gotta pay the freight and wait.

After I had purchased my kit from Cabrio.de I spent some time at the upholstery shop and looked through his GAHH books. I also thought that colors that GAHH has curated for the e9 were not a perfect match, but they have a wide variety of colors for other vehicles and I recall that there were some for Porsche (I think) that seemed like a very close match to my door cards. The problem was that the texture of the leather was a little off.

The Euro models have cloth interior and I absolutely love my corduroy seats. They do not heat up in summer nor are ice cold in winter and my arse stays put.............and the material was and may still be available from BMW and it was not expensive. I got my carpet from KHM, grey-black square weave and am happy with it.

I always agree with quality. You cheap out and you end up paying for it in the end.

One of our biggest problems around here is the lack of quality shops to do work. This pertains to just about everything. All our old school machine shops are gone… guys I knew when I was a young buck. New guys just want to build 1,000 hp crap from boxed parts.

Ditto on upholstery and body guys. The ones that are around only take work from each other and won’t even call you back. Sad state of affairs for the car hobby around here.
