would like to verify the welts around the door and side panels on the coupe. my car was not correct, it had the big welt up front and a small welt in the rear ... but no welt under the edges of the door panel.

my understanding is that the rear of the kick panel is a big welt that goes from the sill up to the bottom of the upper dash panel behind the wood

the rear side panel - also uses a big welt that goes up from the sill the full length of the metal trim. question ... does it stop under the wood or all the way to the top of the wood?

door panel, my understanding is that there is a thin welt that goes full height of the door panel on both sides of the door panel. really curious about where they start and stop. love to see some pix.

thanks

Scott.

I sent detailed pictures to your cell phone two days ago of the same. It features how the pinch welt and windlace relate to the weatherstrip and rear panel on top and how they lock behind then under the interior cabin length floor trim and door sill trims.

On front and back panels, welt goes up under wood and under black vinyl in rear and up to A pillar vinyl in front, both are thick. Door welt is thin and also goes up under wood and stops.

thanks Roger, Steve + Chris for the pictures and descriptions have been very helpful. i also want to thank Coupeguy for mailing me each of the welts. so i've created drawings for the welts and will make a mockup set with some spare vinyl.

interesting finds - the big welts are made with vinyl wrapped around thin-walled rubber tubing ... the small welts are made with solid material. so i will try to source some material that is the right size. once i get them right, i will have them made with leather.

once i get them sorted out, i will have drawings if anybody needs to make a set.

"Welts"; any pics of them?

HI,

with my lack of English as first language, the "welts" had me puzzled.
Thought it was German at first so I was puzzled at first.

But if I understand in correctly, they are stips of leather or vinyl, folded and sewn over to make a tube, perhaps filled with some stuffing?
They are then added to 'smooth'' the fitment of the interior panels with the doorrubbers.

My car has none of them left, where were they suppposed to be?
How are they attached; tucked under the side trim panels, or sandwiched under the door rubbers?

I will want to reproduce them, in the same time as i will get my seats redone.

Are there any pictures and/or drawings with dimensions?
Regards, Erik.

They surround three sides of the door panels, originally pop riveted, now glued to door or door card. Others which are thicker are at A pillar side of front kick panel and leading edge of rear seat cards.

didn't realize that the welts were at the bottom of the door as well ... thought they were just at the ends.

Scott,

Thanks for the update. You were first in line for any spare welts that aI have. I confirmed that the door welts on my target coupe are trashed. I should have spare kick panel welts.

The door welts are held on by tiny black screws and adhesive. I took a pic in my deconstruction thread.

Scott:

Working on the CSI tonight. I took a pic of the tiny screw that holds the welt in place. There is one at each corner of the door.

I just got my CSI back from coupeking and the reason it was there was due to the welt
Hanging up at the rear of the door card, so that every time you opened the doors
the door card would pull away from the inside of the door frame. Solution?
Remove the welt!

I always thought it was attached to the door card but seeing the screw and placement in your picture makes sense. I think the welts really add to the quietness of the interior, my blue coupe is without them and the polaris coupe has them. There is a noticeable difference in the way the door sounds when it closes.

Paul,

want to part with the welt?

Very easy to make, just give a small sample to any upholstery shop and they'll make 50 feet for about 60.00.

If people are really interested I have an original and I can have them made by my guy, but I would like to get a fair size order to make it worthwhile. At some point I'm planning to have some made for myself so let me know-

Also, color is easy (as long as it's black or blue) the reds and tans would need a more exact color match.
