Intersting value story

Id like to see the Hagerty report. Is it public? I cant find it.

I call BS from the data i have.
Vin 2581201 sold in july for $38k at RM
Thats a base 72 in Golf, was not perfect, but very good.

I watch the 2002 closely, they are not decreasing. Good luck convincing a seller to take 30% off last years price.

Yes, I agree.

And by auctions I think they mean private auctions not the EBay type.

Here's a Hagerty report I went to and put in 68 2002.

They show values going up.

So I posted above just because it seemed strange they thought the values were going down. Like to know where they get their data?
 
When they say auction data they mean from large Auctions with an A. Like R&M and others. It will fluctuate from year to year, I wouldn't be concerned.
 
Of the five cars Autoweek reports price declines, four are American and three are old old. The fourth American car, the Jeep CJ-7, is essentially a 1940's design. Here's their list:

1. 1946 – 1952 Hudson Commodore (-36 percent)
2. 1968 – 1975 BMW 2002 (-33 percent)
3. 1976 – 1986 American Motors CJ-7 (-32 percent)
4. 1957 – 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk (-30 percent)
5. 1955 – 1957 Chevrolet 150 (-27 percent)

I believe that 1940's and 1950's cars are decreasing in popularity as the people who remember them are retiring from the car hobby. But including the BMW 2002 on that list is just silly - perhaps in another 20 years, but not today.

I suspect that the Auctions (with a capital "A" as HB Chris characterizes them) were too busy selling multi-million dollar Ferraris in 2015 to bother with 2002's.

I'm not sure about auction specs, but I've seen my fair share of dirt cheap roundie projects on Seattle craigslist in the last six months, along with $13K-$19k cars that aren't moving.
 
I see a similar story in the Los Angeles Craigslist. Most 2002's regardless of initial price point have been sitting for long periods with no takers. A lot of price reductions also.

It still looks like 2800CS are getting the short end of the stick -
3.0CS average more than twice as much than 2800CS;
does this seem realistic to you more experienced folks?

What about a 2800 w/ M30B35, 5 speed, etc?

not the case in actuality. this is only what is really captured by auction sales. if you had exactly the same coupe, in the exact condition (impossible but for discussion purposes) - one a 2800cs and another 3.0cs ... perhaps the 3.0cs might get 5 to 10 percent more - maybe. if the brakes were upgraded on the 2800cs it would be more equal. m30b35 conversion further equals the playing field ... eventually a numbers matching may prove to be worth more - definitely in a CSL, but for now its pretty equal - just the b35 is likely to be in better shape / better performance - so worth a bit more.
