Is it a sin?

I must make a confession. I was very very naughty and purchased a low mileage (5K) 2006 Lotus Elise. Is this a sin?

Aside from potentially hurting my coupe's feeling, I have a major problem. She is 17 and thinks that she makes my Lotus look really good.... 8)

JJ,

It is not a sin. We men have a defect in the Y chromosome that forces us to want to taste everything in four wheels. Better to cheat on the Coupe than the wife. My company is an authorized Lotus dealership, I have taken Lotus home several times and they are FUN, a little small for my fat a** but way cool. Enjoy it then go back to your Coupe and you'll remember why you fell in love with her.

You are forgiven my son

JJ Be careful. While the Coupe is elegant, stylish and sophisticated the Elise is headstrong wild and a minx. Many men have been torn between the two and have lost all reason. I mean, just look at the names Coupe...Elise. That will tell you all you need to know. I found myself on this very same slippery slope and have succumbed. Now I own six Lotus cars and three BMW's.
 :?

The interesting thing is that when I open the door to the garage, I instantly know which car is the one for this outing. Have fun but be careful. I have given up all hope of a normal life.

The reality of the situation has still not sunk in. I guess I am more panicked by 17 year old brick Sh-t House daugher woh has already decided it belongs to her....

My next question is what would CSFan call me now? We know C....S...er's are but when a Lotus is added to the mix I can only imagine that a few more expressive terms will be in order. :p

My 19 year old daughter makes my NSX look better.... from the passenger seat!

Remember that in the male the brain stem does not fully develop until after the 25th birthday. In females it often never happens.

Enroll your daughter in a sport performance handling course. Both the car and your precious one will be the better for it cause that thing "is da bomb".

Very cool car. My friend has one and they are fun and fast. DO NOT let her drive that thing. These cars can get away from even an experienced driver and there is not much in the way of body that provides crash protection.

You probably are already aware that you made a mistake by buying this car before she headed off to college.... :D

Well. I guess I can explain that it is totally impractical for college, you can't even fit a 1st year physics book in the boot - barely enough room for a change of undies (which will be needed with this car). :D

My plan is to tell her that if she gets a full scholarship that I might let her drive it once she has completed her masters, gets married and has grandkids.

Now, should I go kill the dealer?

Confession

I feel I should unburden myself of this; it has been weighing on me. I had planned on buying an Elise if I didn't fix up my garage bound E9. There it is. I know, sacrilege. Luckily I saw the light and bit the bullet and (fill in your own mixed metaphore)

Oh and my 16 and 18 year old daughters will have access to a 98 Subaru wagon (slight rust)

very nice

Great car John. I'll bet you and your daughter had a great time shopping for that car. The car will be a blast to take on the track/driving school. Your daughter thinks you're the best dad in the world.

Lore of the Loti

JJ--a cautionary word to the wiae--

Don't let that guy DB Cooper guy regale you with too many Lotus goings on--as he is now afflicted with a nice California Coupe and he may be warming you up to take one of his old, tired, weather weary (read--no tops) Lotus 7's (or some such number) and pawn it off on you when your beautiful Daughter takes that new one off to College--after several appropriate high speed car control and accident avoidance driving sessions of course.

And remember we colonists are promised that Alphas are coming ashore again-after al these years of absence hhhmmmm

I picked up the Lotus yesterday. OMFG, this car is stupid fast. It is also a head turner - even old ladies stop and ask about it. Now if I can only find a way to get my 250+ lb body in and out of it with looking like a complete idiot I'll be set.

The ride is surprisingly comfortable and it can be driven very sanely. However, once you get the variable cam engaged when the engine hits 6000 rpm watch out, this thing kicks harder than any turbo I've ever experienced. Fortunately the small boot is large enough for a change of shorts which seems to be a mandatory for both driver and passenger. I took my wife for a spin and she was screaming to turn around and go home before I hit the end of the street.

My daughter now wants to start a service to pick up rich boys after school and drive them home for $250. She claims to have several clients waiting; Dad on the other hand is not convinced this is a good idea but it would defray the cost of ownership.

JJ
Both Yoda and I tried to warn you. :D

Amazing what lightness brings to the equation, eh?

Also, it sounds as though you have a budding entrepreneur in your house!

Have fun!

I understand the factory is offering a dealer install supercharge kit for the Elise. I don't know what hp increase it would add, the Elise SC gets 220 and the Exsige S gets 240 to 260. That's a hell of a lot of hp for a 1.9 litre 4 banger.

If you put on the supercharger and intercooler kit and have it remapped you can get 300hp at the rear wheels. There was an Exsige at the place where I bought it that had this modification and they have the dyna test results. I cannot even begin to imagine what this is like. They claim it is about 3.9sec to 60mph.

The local lotus people held a small welcome/coffee meet for me today. I took the Elise and he E9. They didn't really know what to make of a vintage BMW. The questions were: is that real wood? How much does it weight? Is that a straight six? Is it like an M6? Pretty color!

A nice artsy-fartsy picture my daughter took:
