I may buy a Getrag 5 speed. This is a 3 parts trans with detacheable bell-housing. The guy says it is a close ratio with a 1:1 5th but it is not a dogleg. The seller believes it is a 262CR.

I did a google search and all what I find for "262 CR" mentions it is a dogleg.

I also have a table I found on the net time ago that lists only 1 trans with a 1:1 5th among the ones of that era and it is the 262CR.

Is there such a trans, close ratio with a 1:1 5th which is not a dogleg? On the pictures I got the trans looks just like a 265 with detacheable bell-housing. What trans could that be?

Thanks for the help!

The 265s (OD and CR) say "262" on the case, as the largest section is the same between the 265 and the 262, so they just re-used the same casting. If it is a 1:1 top gear and it has 5 speeds, it is a 265CR dogleg box. If it is a three piece non-dogleg box, then it is a 265 OD. They only ever made the 5 speed CR as a dogleg box.

Agreed....

"They only ever made the 5 speed CR as a dogleg box."

No such thing as a 5 speed CR that is NOT a dogleg.

x_atlas0 is correct...
