Is this a 5 speed transmission?

My best guess is that it's not an overdrive.

The seller has advertised this and an L block engine for some months. On that Craigslist posting it was listed as a dogleg CR. ( I was briefly interested in the motor)

The casting numbers are unreadable by me; except for the 262 barely legible and missing 1.3 below it for an overdrive. The other stamped numbers are mystery numbers known to Getrag. Maybe gear ratios/ sets but the math doesn't add up to me like the rear ends do.

79 Euros were mostly ( I believe all) CR boxes. 80, 81, and 85 years are the ones to pay attention to.

The price then and now seems high and the shipping cost is double.

Good 5 speeds run about $350 plus or minus, plus shipping.

should be a dogleg...

I ended up buying the block and Jerry is correct, the seller said the tranny is from the same car- a very early Euro 635 so it should be a dogleg. The engine and tranny have been sitting around a long time but the bottom end turned out to be clean and usable.

Thats a normal Getrag 262 4 speed. Not an OD 5 and not a Dogleg 5 either.

Both the OD and the Dog Getrag 262/265 have the additional section and this hasn´t

Remember, Euro spec cars can be quite spartan and a 4 speed, even on a 635 is possible.

that is without a doubt a 4 speed trans, no ifs and or buts
the "dogleg " close ratio trans is the same length of the overdrive ones
that is just a plain old 4 speed

corrected...

went back and looked at my email exchange with the seller, he said it wasn't an overdrive unit but that of course doesn't rule out a 4spd.

Not a dogleg- it is missing the two through studs for the platform hangers.
