We are in the process of restoring a 70 2800CS. Just got the head off and this is what we found. RATS
The number 3 cylinder coolant flow slotted opening has corroded towards the combustion chamber and it looks like it was barely sealing. Number 2 cylinder is not far behind. The rest are okay. Car has 170k plus miles but the head was replaced about 100k ago.
From the records I got with the car 30 years ago, the head was replaced once with an intermediate unit as described in this FAQ on heads

Its got a 79 date code and a casting number of 12500199.
So is this now junk. I have not measured if the head was ever skimmed (cut), but could it be welded and skimmed smooth again. My guess is NO.
So if we replace, from the above link we should look for an 81 or later head.
Any one got one?? I am running the original zeniths carbs so I need a head with the fuel mechanical fuel pump opening.
Do I have any other options to fix this???
