Is this piston reduced to a paper weight?

Came in a set of 6.

Looks like it has suffered from corrosion.


The other 5 look nice, although having no experience I wouldn't know what to look for.

But this looks like it is non useable; am I right?

Another strange thing I notice is the difference on the piano top shapes, especially how deep the depression is just next to the piano; on the short side.

In the pic you see one piston (green tape) where the dimple is just deeper and wider then the other 5. Is this difference normal?

So they must have kissed a valve me thinks.

How would this affect their running behavior? Could they be off-balance and unfit for use?

Is it possible that someone has done a DIY pocketing job to increase valve to piston clearance? I don’t think I’d trust them in an engine of mine.

those appear to be relieved for a high lift cam or a uber decked engine.
